  3. Of course there's always the opportunity to partake in the next one, when we all get fed up with ... Daft suggestions regarding Safety Certificates renewed every year, and not being allowed to use the same inspector more than thrice. Lack of maintenance resulting in year round stoppages becoming common. Moaners on forums brow bashing poor old Waterways at every opportunity ... 😏
  4. Bu those who comment thus. Try supporting Wiki either in conversation or online. The insults will be many and fast. And we all know how long it takes to rebuild a reputation, Skoda are still working at it.
  5. Not for me. I don't trust anything that bears the word "Wiki" in it, or follows the premise of any old contributor writing anything they want (it happens enough in the forum, but at least that's hand able). It's not that I disagree with the principle. It's because "Wiki" has a rubbish reputation. Why would this forum want to be associated.
  6. If you don't want to use leccy. You can borrow my mother in law. She only has to shout and it'll disappear.
  7. I don't care either way, but I am convinced that if ever there were a bunch that would reject their State Pension because it just suddenly appeared, then they're here on this forum.
  8. My SR2 suffers from the pulley coming off the camshaft instead of the crank pulley that most do. I ended up putting another bulb in parallel with the original on the dashboard. The increase in wattage was enough to excite the alternator into life earlier.
  9. Of course, but not for someone new to the scene who keeps crocodiles in their pockets.
  10. After the closing of Snibstone the council were actively searching for a new home for her. For a reason I have never understood, they contacted me and asked if I would be supportive of her going to The Ashby Canal Association at Snarestone Wharf. I supported the proposal, and have no idea what happened after.
  11. That sounds as if they are wanting to distance themselves from what it was that attracted their audience to them in the first place. I guess they're wanting to be bigger celebrities than mere boaters.
  12. They aren't all, mine wouldn't be as I quoted earlier. I would urge caution, as we don't know how she described it nor how they interpreted her description. Some years ago I purchased a heavily modified Harley Davidson that was a chopper/bobber in the extreme. Basically the engine and registration plate were original, everything else was changed. It passed MOTs and had a V5 reflecting correct serial numbers. I phoned around for insurance and went with one underwritten by Lloyds, I even emailed them a photo on the day I collected it. A fortnight later once I had the policy in my hands I decided to double check with the underwriters. They went ballistic, immediately cancelling cover, and refunding part only of the premium, as IT WAS ME who had misled them! After further discussions I got all of the premium back as they admitted that agents would omit details in order to reach targets and earn commissions. Anyway Insurance companies aren't the stewards of our inland waterways, C&RT are.
  13. This subject seems to crop up every year, so I guess it's that time again. And then somebody addresses the above question, so I guess it's my turn this year. Never give an insurance company even a whiff of a reason to renege, for most surely they will. You'll see something somewhere saying the craft is to be helmed from the on board steering and engine control point by a competent individual or somebody under supervision from the policy holder. Taken from my own policy. Even if there isn't, C&RT in their T&Cs have always muttered threats about requiring somebody on board being accountable when under way. And, of course that's ignoring technicalities of voiding insurance which of course invalidates C&RT licence. Waterways have always been famous for having unenforceable rules or merely ignored their own rules, and I guess always will. However what concerns me in this case is that it's not a rule for the sake of having one. If this cocks up the potential damage that may be caused to either infrastructure or somebody else's boat doesn't bear thinking about, and is not the time to be testing out the administration behind licence applications or insurance. The bottom line I guess is how secure does everyone feel about success being dependent on a handful of Duracells when the alternative is unthinkable?
  14. My experience is that it all depends on service history. The only time I ever used one was on a Rover 3500 TC I'd owned all month, the flush came free with an oil and filter kit. I followed the instructions to the letter, the old oil came out like treacle. Upon starting after the short service, the dipstick launched like an ICBM, I observed the arc it traced as it bounced off the wall and rolled to a rest under the car. On my hands and knees I was thrilled to note a couple of litres of new oil was joyously spraying itself from oodles of places. I couldn't tell exactly why as the scene was disappearing inside a fog of blue smoke. An idea suggested itself when I shone a torch down the oil filler, I was looking for blockages at the top end, but instead found torch light around the sump. I've never felt the urge to repeat the exercise.
  15. I've never considered a boater's marital status as being important when it comes to handling before. I suppose it's down to the manner of the handling.

  17. First is Nelson Second is Mr. Spock Three & four are a pair of geezers.
  18. I heard it was a requirement on the Warlock & Birmingham.
  19. Or in minus temperatures "waxing of the fuel"
  20. You don't say why your engine won't start. Is it because the batteries are too flat to turn it over fast enough? Or are the batteries flat because constant turning the key wouldn't start it and now they're flat? Wouldn't it start because the cold has turned the diesel to wax? Or is it something else?
  21. I suspect its future success will depend not so much on his boating experience or even his 30 years in pubs, but ultimately on the deal he agrees with Star Pubs (the owners). *The rent *How tightly they bind him to the stock he sells, and where he may procure it. *How much they charge him wholesale for his stock. Assuming the answer to the above question is as expected. *How much share of the machine income they siphon off and whether they pay a share of the machine rental/licence & overheads or not. I suspect not. I could continue as some on here are fully aware. However, I don't want to pour cold water on anyone who believes in dreaming of their own future retiring to run a pub. 🤣
  22. So, what is the difference between Broad and Wide Locks?
  23. Most excellent. I think he might have passed through Aynho a few months ago quite late in the evening.
  24. I agree overtightening is likely to damage a casting or strip a thread. Especially as that is the area where work was recently attempted. However, I'm also puzzled how diesel is finding its way into the sump!? That would suggest another issue where the feedline attaches to the rail that feeds the injector pumps. This would be a major issue as diesel diluting the lubrication oil is to be avoided at all costs.
