  1. Not at that price though. Re-footing and doing the straight bits is straight forward (pun intended). It's the double curvy bits, swims, uxter plates and counter bands that take the expertise, time and shillings. The asking price needs to reflect what's down the line.
  2. What puts me off most about Buckden is the state of the counter bands. Top market value while bearing all the scars of rough buttying.
  3. Repacking your stern gland ... Chucking out your anchor ... Changing your gas cylinder ... Saying "Yes dear" ... Depositing oodles of cash in your bank account ... Are all things you should consider doing if you have the evidence it is necessary so to do. Otherwise don't waste your time, effort or money.
  4. My new favourite word.
  5. Personally, I've never appreciated a canal boat lacking tumblehome.
  6. Sad looking cabin. It looks wooden and has no tumblehome.
  7. It looked to me as she had a tug in attendance and was manoeuvring astern at speed. Of course as soon as the mast tops made contact with the bridge deck any chance of retaining a straight line of direction was lost. I imagine The Master, Executive Officer and Officers on watch have already packed there kit bags.
  8. A weekend or so ago I was on The Coventry Canal Society work Boat Panther, doing a canal clearance. Despite having having been out of action for the first part of the year with gear box issues and then fuel contamination, we were impressed at the state of it all. Trolleys were down to about a third, one of which was so remote it had to be dragged from the silt. It had been there so long we suspected it had been Mr Brindley's original, it had a groat in the lock. No bikes, but I think I have the honour of extracting the first electric adult scooter from deep down under. It was minus its battery.
  9. Blast, you've now made me Google "concomitant " ... can't say I'm any the wiser.
  10. I hope the guy steering had a proper seat and not a suicide/tractor effort.
  11. No police incident number ... no interest.
  12. I'd be more bothered by the danger involved with "suicide seats". Showing results for 'suicide seats'. - Canal World
  13. ... and the previous six?
  14. Which are encouraged into action by the likes of C&RT offending their sense of fair play. Too many authorities impose rules having recognised the need to police an activity (like fat boats wandering into narrow beam waters or being left on tight bends for months). So they introduce a set of tight rules "Thou shalt not ..." "Thou must always ..." and then promptly don't enforce them. They realise that the majority of us being jolly decent chaps understand the need and oblige. Consequently they don't need to go to the trouble and expense of enforcing their own rules in order to achieve a bit of a result. They learn to rely on their own customers to nudge them in the elbows when a particularly bloody minded or selfish scrote turns selfishness into a profession. Then the remainder who feel "Sod this, what if we all just ignored the rules?" start shouting and are maligned as Curtain twitchers united. So, without being petty while keeping the bigger picture in view, what is the way forward?
  15. Rodbaston was a problem, on and off (strangely) and one of the Cheshire locks on Heart Break Hill. When I had Rigal. Marcellus only ever got stuck in Penkridge Town.

  17. Terminology. 1) Fuel pump raises diesel from the tank to the fuel filter. (If your fuel tank take off is higher than the fuel filter on your engine then it's unlikely you have a fuel lift pump as gravity will do the job). 2) Injector pump is a high pressure pump that delivers diesel from the fuel filter to the injector when the timing dictates it. (This is fitted behind the casing on the side of the engine casing. If your fuel tank is above that height, then the fuel is likely to be gravity fed to the fuel filter. You will still need to bleed each injector pump at the bleed screw in its base as well as the union with the injectors. OP was asked if any smoke was emitting from the exhaust but didn't answer.
  18. "I can get the engine to try and turn over through the solenoid and starter motor.." Doesn't sound as if it is spinning fast enough to run. Charge the batteries to maximum. It looks as if the decompression levers are snapped off, so you're going to have to rely on the button. If it was just a poor description of what is occurring and the engine is actually spinning over fast enough then is there any smoke emitting from the exhaust pipe and what colour is it?
  19. No agenda Tony, hidden or otherwise. I just get a little tired of the righteous opinions that arise on this forum at times. I'll probably just take a bit of a break for a while and spend more time on my motorcycle forums where it's generally accepted that a biker's bike is their pride and joy and not to be trashed merely so one can prove how smart they are.
  20. No not at all Tony. I don't approve of picking out adverts and ridiculing a design, a make of engine or builder etc. That is personal not general advise. Some years ago The newsletter of a club I belonged to published a comment from a member about a boat that was for sale saying that it had not been improved by additions/changes made by subsequent owners. As it happened the vendor pursued it with the support of C.A.B. the issue being the boat club by printing it had diminished the appeal/value of his boat. it only took one person to confirm they had been put off by the comments to prove the point. Remember there is a difference between saying a 1970s Springer should be surveyed due to the gauge of steel used at the time. And saying nb Gutbucket at Wotsit Marina is to be avoided, due to unsubstantiated faults.
  21. My unfavourable response to this thread was hidden and the reason given was it was an attack on a new member. I should like to say my reaction would have been exactly the same if it was a long standing member. I find the summary of other people's boats, their builders and the brokers is inaccurate and uncalled for. If it were boats in general it could be even be amusing, but actually naming boats for sale and identifying brokers and builders in such a demeaning manner I find insulting and rude. I am not interested in one individual's personal view, I am even less interested in drumming up negativity by popular opinion. I have a higher opinion of this forum.
  22. Looks like it's been rescued from Harefield Flash. I'm always entertained by eBayers who describe their item ... " All the Parts to make it wrk are fitted, EXCEPT ...." And then go on to list the expensive/difficult bits that are missing, expecting you not to notice.

  24. It takes two to tango. You share the responsibility of the situation you find yourself in. Ask for a detailed summary of his charges, if you find them excessive try and negotiate. I'm afraid you'll have to accept you left it there for 4 years and although you checked yearly and weren't satisfied with his response, you did allow the situation to continue. Approach the issue gently and not in a strop.
