  1. In, just, ten years of owning my boat I have moored in three marinas; all had a "no resident" clause in the mooring contract. Two of the three had a significant minority of people resident on their boats. In each case no great effort was made by the residents to hide their status and, as far as I could see, the marina staff didn't make any effort to enforce the contract terms. As far as I was concerned it was a "good thing" as I felt that my boat was more secure during times when I was at home.
  2. I could not be fairly described as "poor" but I don't have a smart phone. I have never smoked (not tobacco anyway) and I haven't owned a pair of trainers in 20 years. This doesn't prove anything about the real world, nor do "news reports".
  3. I have had a composting toilet on the boat for 4 years now, so it has been in use by two people for two years (we only spend half the year on the boat). I would not change it now and for obvious reasons, I am not particularly interested in discussing toilets with people who have no practical experience. They can bring little of substance to the debate. Dr Bob mentions "disgusting" as a trigger word in recognising these people, "bucket of shit under the bed" is another useful trigger.
  4. Can certainly do that. Let's see how we manage on a completely different topic i.d.c.
  5. Surely "credulity" means an unwise eagerness to believe. Matty's unwillingness to believe is a rational position so perhaps attempting to lead him away from it is initself lamentable.
  6. Well it appears that we are going to disagree, so be it. Don't suppose those reading the thread will care much either way; I am bored with it myself. And of course I have to remember the old saying "a wise man should not argue with a fool - passers-by will not know which is which". I honestly don't think that I appear angry or unhinged but you are entitled to your opinion. Similarly, I think you appear to be a halfwit (not least by thinking the order of your quotes misrepresents your views) and am entitled to my opinion about this. Matchpoint005 Obviously you are correct, however I do get worked up about the shits we (almost always) have in government, but I have a congenital problem with stupidity so I keep away from the politics section for the good of my health.
  7. The following are direct quotes from your earlier posts:- "Read about!! I was a compost toilet user...Been there, read about it, got the t shirt!!" "The point I was actually making is that every compost toilet user has to dump their urine in the cut or along the tow path." "It's not an assumption at all......By their own admission that's what compost toilet users do!!!" "Wrong. You know as well as I do what compost toilet users do in the real world." Now the first quote makes it clear that you used a compost toilet - no assumption there. The other three imply that every such user - irrespective of whether they own a boat (or even their own compost toilet) - dumps their urine. Show me the assumption. After all I've shown you the halfwit.
  8. Give me a handful of straw anytime!! Also, I bet they made a poor meal afterwards - perhaps explains why popcorn was not popular in rural agrarian communities (that or the lack of cinemas).🙂
  9. Well if your assumption is correct, you, like "everyone", dumped your piss in the canal. Congratulations, I don't. As for slinging insults, I'm only insulting a halfwit if it turns out he is not a halfwit. Otherwise it's no more than a factual description.
  10. It was an assumption and an incorrect one. You said every compost toilet user had to dump on the tow path or in the canal. I don't, others don't. Therefore your assumption was wrong. Please don't worry yourself about my heart - I just can't react well to stupidity. Tell you what, I'll deal with my heart - you deal with the other thing.
  11. We empty our urine container (roughly two days worth) at an elsan or (if pushed) in public toilets. We have spare containers and elsans are fairly common. We take the compostable material home and compost it. How you could assume that "every compost toilet user has to dump their urine in the cut or along the tow path" is beyond me. It was a half-witted remark of the first order.
  12. That is a ridiculous assertion, I have a dry toilet but have never dumped urine in any unacceptable manner.
  13. It has been my experience (not with a boatyard) that filling in the court forms and sending a copy to the person you are claiming from often works without the need to formally proceed with the claim.
  14. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  15. Zetti, our Goldie is only interested in food. She is never on a lead except where there is danger from traffic (she tends to run towards black 4x4s because my daughter has one). She ignores all other dogs (no dog has ever given her a treat). She ignores children (on the same grounds). She mostly ignores other adults; dog walking adults are a potential source of treats, she will sit at their feet and stare at them until they give her something or walk on.
  16. I would be annoyed if Rugby Boats refused to sell my boat for me because of inadequacies in its paperwork. They had no problem with selling it to me!
  17. Yep! I know I can't sleep so I don't rush to bed.
  18. Well clearly you are correct about being up late (other thread)! You wouldn't catch me up at 03.24 in the morning. Keep well, or as near as possible.
  19. Dubliners call it stout if it's draft and porter if it's in a bottle. Just saying.
  20. Sorry, a bit off topic. I could not turn my 70' boat at Harecastle southern entrance even though somebody on here said they turned theirs. In the event mine is 70.5' (which I didn't know at the time) but the tunnel keeper said I wouldn't get it round. You can't always go even by personal recommendation - as I had ample time to consider while reversing two miles to the winding hole.
  21. Thank you very much, I may take you up on that. I do wonder if, as a hobbyist, I can really justify £4,000 for a router. Have to think about that. Anyway, thanks.
  22. Right, I've found a video showing one in use. If you watch Ran Sailing on you tube - video no. 325. Best I can do - it's impossible to explain if you haven't seen one. Sorry, crossed with yours. Thanks very much, I started to think that I had imagined the whole thing.
  23. Yes, it was, but hand-held. I can only suggest that you have a look on google.
  24. The tool scans the work piece using taped markers first. I'm no good with links but you could google 'Shaper Origin' to see some examples. The one I saw did not have the frame shown in your example - it is just a hand held router.
  25. I have seen videos of hand-held CNC routers (for example, the Shaper Origin) used in boat related work. Though pricy for a router, they appear to be very useful in large layout applications. Has anyone practical knowledge of these? Are they as good as claimed?
