  1. I just got a copy of Waterways World for April and it has a 4page article printed twice in full, and one of the advertised items if missing.
  2. I seem to recall that when this development was announced, it came up as a topic on here and those who thought it was bad for the canal were shouted down by those who thought it was a good thing. This new road will take away the farmland views that boaters have enjoyed, for many miles. Yes we apparently need housing, although not many young couples will be able to afford what they are building, but Urban and Civic the developers have done nothing for the canal as a compensation. They were asked to help provide and boaters station with all the required facilities in one place just below Hillmorton Locks and to help with the restoration of the Basin there but once all the planning approvals were confirmed, all offers they made magically evaporated. It will doubtless be a very busy road.
  3. Do you mean they are for sale as seen in the photo or do they still have the kits? I would certainly buy them. Can you recall where the cafe is?
  4. Almost certainly from the kits produced by Garth Allen who had his boat based at Dapdune Wharf in Guildford. A long time ago he gave me the only ones he had left after selling his stock to a toy shop owner in Wales where apparently they were destroyed during a marital argument.
  5. Ah but how do you know they wouldn't have lasted that two years anyway?
  6. You see - I fell for it again - I actually looked up the price of a "BM2" About the price of replacing my two batteries!!! The words "brainer" and "NO" spring to mind.
  7. Do not close the case. Leave it to ebay to decide and take action.
  8. OH NO ................ Yet another item about batteries with more endless "mines bigger and lasts longer" conversations. Now I've apparently got to buy a Professional Automatic Temperature Compensation Antifreeze Refractometer Come on gang - life is too short for this.
  9. Big Col, I have just experienced the ebay returns procedure with a seller who sent me a faulty item and would not pay the postage to return it and no guarantee they would refund the cost of purchase. I clicked on the tab that tells ebay I wanted to return the item and then on the tab that asked them to step in to deal with the seller direct. ebay investigated and ruled in my favour and I could then click on the tab that printed out a return label so it cost me nothing to return. The seller had no say in the matter. If he wants to continue selling on ebay (in any of his names) he has to let them take the cost from his ebay account. It worked for me. I have been with ebay buying and selling for ten years and have to say they have never let me down. Good Luck
  10. Oh Dear - every time there is an item like this about charging the batteries, I read it all avidly until I get to the point where it all becomes a great worry and past the point of my understanding what everyone is saying. I then go back to just hoping the 4 solar panels keep the two batteries topped up even in poor weather and if the only gauge I have shows less than a full 5 lights then I put the charger on each battery one at a time until the charger green light comes on. I always think I should find out how to get the charger to carry on charging after it thinks it has charged the batteries (as folk on here seem to be saying I should) but I have no idea what meter to buy /how to fit it/how to read it and what it means if I could. So I just carry on and wait for the batteries to die and spend my money and worry on buying a couple more. I bet I am not alone in this.................

  12. Well not totally, but I bow to your knowledge of this particular case. I did say that his contract is with the seller and I now know that states "Custom duty is not included in item fees ,it's buyer's responsibility". In my case, no such words were quoted on the ebay entry. And using your own definition - WHO brought the goods into the country?
  13. As you say you have no contract with DHL why pay anything. They choose to pay the import duties and VAT merely to provide a faster service than their competitor couriers. HMRC advise them to reclaim this payment from the importer. You are not the importer. The importer is their client who sold you the goods. Your contract is with the seller. But I bet you will still get an invoice from DHL, long after the goods have arrived, merely because it is easier to claim it from the receiver of the goods than upsetting their regular clients. Ebay have no policy on this practice and will not help. It comes down to the definition of the word "importer".
  14. Ah the lovely DHL. After you receive the item, be prepared for a humping great VAT charge which DHL will say they had to pay to HMRC without consulting you so that the item is not held to ransom in customs. They will demand immediate payment on pain of debt collection fees and court action. This just happened to me even though the ebay listing said the items location was High Wycombe and I had no idea the sneaky seller was importing items only when bought and having them delivered direct to the buyer - me. Apparently DHL are allowed to pursue whoever received the goods rather than their client who is the actual importer. I know its not exactly like your case but worth noting. Live and learn.
  15. A great many boaters will miss the sight of Trevor on Corona and also miss him as a very pleasant man.

  18. Who was it once said "If you can't cite an authoritative source, you are just spreading gossip. Many stories in the press turn out to be wildly inaccurate. Anyone who has been involved in a situation taken up by the 'Gentlemen of the Press' will know that they are often ill-informed. Internet news sources don't even fact-check"
  19. Precisely......... And it is the heading chosen by the OP that is the over-dramatic part.
  20. The information came direct from the lock keeper involved. The wonderful thing is that you have the freedom to choose not to believe me or him at all. You could of course check out the facts for yourself but I suspect you won't bother.
  21. Latest news at The Locks is that the occupants of the boats were arrested recently on another boat related matter and CRT seized the boats.
  22. If the presenter is Elle then I for one do not care what she says. Ii will just be looking , probably not listening.
  23. PM me with an email address and I can attach a copy of the instructions on an attachment.
  24. As has been mentioned earlier, the assault victim continued his duties and when a fellow lock-keeper recovered an expensive stolen bike, he recalled which boat he had seen it on as it went through the lock, and informed the owner who now has his property returned. He has had no update from the police about the assault.
