  1. I can also remember asking my Dad about lead and he heated up an andrews liversalts tin in a pan and melted a teaspoon to it using a lead fishing weight - mum was not happy!
  2. Surely you can't have a CC community unless they all follow each other?
  3. When i was a lad i wasn't closely supervised which was great for experimenting. I made a fire lighter with a match with thin wire wrapped around going to mains (yes it was mains!) controlled with what i think was a 12v switch. worked a treat. I then found you could use lighter fluid to make a run of fire across the garden and it didn't even burn the grass! its quite amazing im still alive! ah the fun of being a kid in the 70s!

  8. The term 'professional' means different things to different people. Some think it just means you're paid to do it. If you're competent could you pay yourself!!
  9. With all these older pics its always interesting to see lack of moored boats! Bit like older street pics with lack of cars....

  13. Our cat sits there when its locked, hooks it and pulls it back - smart cookie!
  14. I cant yet see any political party that has any real plans for solving the housing issues. This is up there with NHS reform/tax reforms that they are not interested in as its too much of a minefield/takes people with real vision and will impact on their short term re-election ability, which lets face it is their number one priority - you only have to look at now - election coming so all of a sudden the Tories are doing the usual tax cuts/throwing us crusts in the hope of wining an election.... Housing is crazy in this country and has turned from a basic necessity into a luxury. When my Mum was a child they lived in a 2 up 2 down in Cambridge - small terrace - 5 of them - it was a council house. He worked as a gas man, so was on standard low wages. The same house is now worth £500k, well beyond the reach of most.
  15. For £60k you'll be able to get a nice boat - your 'forever' one unless you want to change, but as its risky buying boats you might want to reconsider if you like it! Welcome by the way!!

  21. Often wondered if these idyllic properties are not so idyllic once you move in and have had a few days watching boats/trains etc.... has anyone on here bought their 'dream' house and been disappointed?
  22. I hope magnet fishing people aren't following this!
