  1. If its on the right water go for it - 12.5 ft looks like good advice though
  2. James, I've only just seen this - so sad - another big loss to the system and the old values he will be greatly missed - Lynne will make contact with Pauline I'm sure. EDIT - I'm just reflecting on the incredible amount of knowledge which will be lost with his passing......
  3. I've only ever used it for moving the sharp end if its stuck in a muddy winding hole then its invaluable With your boat and your cruising IMHO a complete waste of time, unless you need to extend your TV aerial height, and its something else to trip you up on the roof! ALSO......if you do want one a mop stick handrail from any GOOD timber yard will do just as well and costs a 1/4 of the price

  5. You might find if there are inadequate fixings behind it that you will have to put a couple of cross braces (6-8ft spacing) on the surface to hold it together - if you did these in a quality contrasting wood strip to match the walls (tip - always buy a bit heavier/thicker than you think) they would add more character and look perfectly OK - that would completely solve the problem as you could fix them together as one .................

  7. Just in case towpath gossip takes this off anyones radar yes we have bought a river boat while we continue to look for the right historic boat - she will be kept on the river Severn at Stourport and will provide a nice locally based change and it will be good to have a bit more room to lay on the floor trying to work on fittings etc. She needs TLC but that is OK and was reflected in the price.......... its strange to have relied entirely on photos and phone conversations not seen her or had a survey - new BSSC commissioned by me and he said she looks good and great vfm - time will tell.......
  8. EVEN the owner of RN who is a well built strong bloke has trouble starting a DM2 by hand! JP2 is much easier I couldn't even get my DM2 on Persia to move - IMHO don't touch DM3's spares are impossible unless transferrable from the 2! I "passed" on a great boat a few years back which had a DM3 lovely engine but a worry - not why we go boating..........
  9. As Rishi would say - its only a months worth of money - sorry "off topic"
  10. this is clearly my personal opinion and you will get many opposing views BUT having owned Listers Perkins Russells and Gardners its a RUSSELL (DM2) every time ............true a lot more expensive but you can get all the bits, the corporate back up is excellent and they look and sound great Peace of mind ............at a price Ha!! Its a good job we aren't all the same
  11. I knew it was - the seller is the soon to be new owner of Princess Anne!
  12. You are probably aware by now that Zulu is for sale at Tollhouse - if any historic owners have had enough and want a classic (more useable) boat I would be happy to discuss part exchange - it would have to fit my criteria as above (short quirky) with a value of about £40k PM me with ideas..............(or any questions about Zulu!)
  13. I think I'm right in saying there are 2 Gorses for sale now - one being the rugby boats one and the other being the one which was at Alvecote last year and sold on the duck over the winter?? I may be wrong but the info came from a reliable source?
  14. To be honest IMHO in that price range there is a lot about and you can probably do better - IF she has been cleaned up for pictures/sale she wasn't great when they took her on! Perhaps that will reflect in her maintenance as well. Have you tried looking for ex hire? There will be a number of older boaters who were intending this to be their last season and have decided to sell early because of the restrictions - that's the sort of boat you want - again IMHO never buy a boat that doesn't look "loved" rather than "lived in" ALSO don't just reply on the duck - lots of yards don't use it so do ferret about on specific yards sites Braunston (worth a look now?) Weltonfield Limekiln (Tilly?) etc etc
  15. Thanks but I've reviewed it already and she's not what I want - AS engine 3'6" draft and at the moment IMHO well overpriced
  16. I seem to remember buying one from/through the forum last time but I can't find any reference to it........... They are out there somewhere in the form of a modern casting but still perfectly acceptable so I don't need to commission a one off............ Thanks
  17. Hi, I need (but no rush) a mounting bracket for this Klaxon - any ideas - I understand there are many different types (of brackets that is not Klaxons)?? Cheers
  18. It was on my radar but as you say I missed it ...................I wanted the potential to perhaps put an undercloth "pod" in the open hold - thanks re Theo' I have made general contact with Sarah via HNBC.
  19. I know it (and Sarah) well - lovely boat but wooden bottom - if we were younger I would take it on but not for us at this time a good example which I have always regretted not buying is Sudbury Too big too deep too heavy too much of a project...........
  20. Far from it - it was very difficult decision BUT we have decided following our house move and some pressing family issues that we want/need to spend more time at home particularly for the next 18 months so we want much more of a hobby boat - it is in fact 2 years since we bought her in which time we have done loads of work incl re-paint new electrics etc etc but she isn't going to get the right level of use and perhaps isn't setting the right direction of travel for us - we may not buy again after 50 years cruising about ,but we both feel we could still be tempted by the right boat - lets see what, if anything, comes up.
  21. I just thought I would drop a line to those of you in the know We are looking for a short historic narrow beam canal boat of some kind (not wooden) - no fixed thoughts but not a project/survey failure and not a hard/deep boat to cruise. Funds readily available for the right boat - please let me know/PM me if you hear/know of anything "Zulu" will be on sale with Tony at Norton Junction eff immediately and physically there for viewings in app 2 weeks time This will be a live “wanted” until we get the right boat which if it's tomorrow or next year (whilst the world settles to the new "norm") is fine. Best wishes and keep safe
  22. Get a lawyer involved its your boat
  23. Thats poor and isn't in sync with advice lots of us have been getting from our marinas where you can visit from Wed but please don't share facilities with live-aboards and don't stay overnight - name and shame - where is your marina??
  24. I agree we seem to be being asked to validate the OPs behaviour here but surely there is scope for using some common sense - the defining fact to me is that you cant stay on board overnight if it is your second home - that's a FACT that won't change anytime soon - but surely if you are on a 20 mile pound and want to go out and back for a picnic I don't see the difference between you and a canoe/cyclist/jogger/angler - but if you are planning to do the Farmers Bridge flight from Sherborne Wharf and back for a day out that isn't the same and isn't in the spirit of the rules as you are making contact with surfaces - what do others think
