  1. This is one of the points I was trying to make. Another relates to temporary including winter moorings. When a boatowner takes a mooring for one or more months, surely they should not have to pay the CC surcharge during this time. As regards boat measurements, in my experience most people do not know for sure what their boat's dimensions are. Also, it is not unknown for boat dimensions to be deliberately under-declared.
  2. My point is 'how much of the 5% will be left after the extra admin costs?'
  3. Gold licences, ghost moorings, temporary including winter moorings and possibly having or moving to/from a mooring off CRT waters are the main issues that I considered. Also, the more complex price list will tend to cause extra admin work.
  4. I, too, wasn't in favour, partly due to the potential administrative complexities.
  5. We managed fairly long trips (6+ weeks) with regular handwashing of smaller items and occasional launderette visits for bedding and jeans. Having only small quantities of damp washing onboard worked well for us. Sometimes I used a hot water bottle for final airing!
  6. It may be that gas is seen as dangerous so better avoided.
  7. This is true. When I insured a pair, the insurer endorsed their policies with specific boat names. So you may need to ask or check.
  8. When a motor and butty are a regular pair, their insurance should cover towing.
  9. This sounds expensive to me and too quick.
  10. At least one of the books describes exactly where the shop was located.
  11. Leaving aside the rubbing strakes, I'd concentrate on any scraped areas where you can see bare metal and just pop some anti-rust paint on to see them through the winter.
  12. Yes I have been thinking that you may find a widebeam boat is harder to manage than a narrow one.
  13. Our cushion foam was described as firmer on one side than the other so it can be used for sitting or as part of a bed. However, we can't really tell the difference!

CRT being forced to use contractors must also have increased maintenance costs.

In my view, the new licence structure will need a lot more 'enforcement' if it is to work as designed.
  16. Are these lock failures associated with being left empty for extended periods of time due to flight opening restrictions?
  17. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  18. The FBW Donations page asked for Gift Aid but there is no mention of IWA. Perhaps if you go ahead, which I didn't, there is a clarification. Obviously any Gift Aid would be claimed and received by IWA in the first instance.
  19. Can anyone please explain how donations to Fund Britain's Waterways are eligible for Gift Aid?

CRT were supposed to be self funding by the end of the initial funding scheme. Government could have decided not to give them any more money. The new deal is lower than the initial one but is a lot more than nil.

    Some people aren't paying currently.
