  1. Really short boats of this type often wobble more than a pylon made of jelly, a combination of being all swim below water and relatively top heavy.
  2. If headroom won't allow for fixing battens to the bearers, you may want to consider using a strip of neoprene between the bearer and the plywood.
  3. I had an Isuzu 3kr1 in my last boat and it too was ludicrously expensive for parts, along with poor spares back up. After numerous conversations with suppliers of all types, I came to the conclusion that these engines were generally fitted in small plant machines, and therefore weren't usually repaired during the relatively short working lifespan. Keep the antifreeze fresh, as the head gasket is something of weakness if not looked after.
  4. I suspect it is either the plumber block (bearing), or more likely, the packing or stern bearing - the latter, if worn can sometimes trap debris or stray bits of packing.
  5. I should imagine they've been asleep, possibly followed by rushing off to work..give 'em a chance. To the O.P. If you haven't already had the brush off from the seller, be patient and polite and it is likely you will receive a better outcome.

  10. One thing that is worth doing whilst you may be at the low fuel mark is to get a smooth piece of dowel, or other suitable material, and make a dip stick (marking the level of the fuel as it is now). You can then make another mark when 40 litres is added, giving you a useful guideline for the future.
  11. Would be worth checking if any small wires were left off, or dislodged when the batteries were changed.
  12. You could do a roaring trade in Special brew in those parts.
  13. The primary reason is that most boat doors open outwards, and household door locks are designed for the opposite (inward), so you would be able to just pull the doors open when locked. The link below is to a secure lock suitable for most boat doors, and has the advantage of locking from either side - padlocks tend to advertise the fact that you are not in. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321266723561?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=thS26ccBTOe&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=-Kp8u8dLQzK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

  15. This is normally done when there is a serious leak in the lock walls, especially when there is a property next to the lock.
  16. If the surveyor said that the pitting could be filled with weld, it would suggest that the pitting, although severe, is localised. It would be pointless to overplate if that is the case. I doubt you'll have any issues with insurers once repaired, as I believe they work on the depth of pitting as a percentage of the original thickness of the plate.
  17. Almost certainly a mink, fish eating birds invariably swallow the whole fish.
  18. Which area are you in? Welcome to take measurements of mine (Timber cabin, original shape and dimensions), only the bulls eye has been moved forwards from its normal spot.
  19. Was it the 3/8" pipe that actually connected to the appliance? It was fitted so badly, I junked everything bar the water heater (along with just about all wiring, pipework and stove installations...). Always a pleasure to follow in the footsteps of the shoddy!
  20. Can anyone help me with the gas pipe dimension for a Morco Eco plus water heater? The rest of the system will be run in 3/8", and would be useful to know if I'll need a different size pipe/adapter for the above.
  21. I'd be surprised if it hadn't happened as a result of inconsiderate use by those turning, crashing into boats moored around the wharf or the capping/piling.
  22. Along with Datchet, Slough, Langley - lots of rough sites around there.
  23. I've found that when I am carrying my old cane stemmed umbrella when walking the local country lanes, I get left a much bigger gap by passing cars - it's almost as if they have no problem hitting the soft target (me), but are averse to a potential scratch from my old brolly...
  24. I don't have a bell fitted to any of my bikes, but prefer to either slow to a crawl and say excuse me. One of the main reasons being it is impossible to ascertain if someone is hard of hearing and a voice tends to make less people jump, I personally feel that bells can sound impatient - particularly if operated by a chump.
  25. Aiming hatred at cyclists is very much the trend these days, unfortunately an acceptable outlet for latent bigotry.
