  4. You should - you grew up near there!
  5. Slightly off topic but I passed The Lady Lorraine, a conventional looking steel narrow boat, yesterday.... ...Doing about seventy on the M6 southbound - she looked well secured and stable.
  6. Our (1906) terrace house was built in an era when the use of attic space for storage was decades in the future. Loft hatches (and insulation!) were not installed and there was a brick divider about every 10-12 houses. One of our neighbours heard what he thought was rats or squirrels in his loft space. One weekend he knocked through from the landing ceiling and was surprised to find an enterprising neighbour (I won't mention his country of origin for fear of incurring the Mod's wrath) had boarded out at least four adjacent lofts and fitted the space out with mattress's, bedding and lighting. At a rough guess his three bed mid-terrace had sleeping space for forty! Needless to say, full height brick partition's followed pretty quickly for everyone.

  15. Sounds like my first car. Before changing the headlight bulb first remove the sump and rear seats.
  16. What he says. And think (now) how you might stop a runaway engine. Turning the electrics off won't work, nor will cutting the fuel. Piece of string on the decompressors?

And (indirectly) leading to "The Beiderbecke Affair", a TV series around the mid 1980's? - A Yorkshire schoolteacher mad about Bix getting dragged into the shady world of illegal record imports.
  18. ... and surely better to wire into the "leisure" circuit than potentially run off the starter battery?
  19. A recent visit by aged parent resulted in me walking slower than usual around Wolverton. Said aged parent then pointed out (which I've never noticed in 32 years) a number of little covers in the road and pavement: - A cursory look while no-one else was around showed what looked like a water stop valve beneath. So, did the BWB (British Waterways Board) branch out into distribution of drinking water or have we an imposter; perhaps the Buckingham Water Board? Apologies if in the wrong place - Mod's please correct.
  20. That was going to be my title for the thread but thought the Mod's might block it. The cassette's( which were in the bushes, not the cut) were relatively hygienic compared to a large black sack of soiled nappies; obviously been on the bank for a while as the sack had started to bio-degrade...
