  1. That's taken, it's the Bridgewater Canal extended stay permit. It was £1200 a year about 6 years ago, no idea what it costs now, and you still needed a normal boat licence as well!
  2. Out of general interest, how much would the Gold licence be for your boat?

  4. My boat lost a bit of draught on the website to "fit" through the Ribble Link booking. The rotating sea lock (the pinch point) was fine. If you're worried, book for a higher predicted tide - they run uphill from about 8.6m to 9.5m - and try and get out of Tarleton as early as possible or give it more beans down the Douglas. Basically you'll be fine. Unless you're tail end Charlie on a low tide, in which case you'd want to divert to Preston Docks and go up the link the day after, which is the fallback plan if it all goes wonky. I'd actually recommend adding this in if it's the first time you've done the Ribble Link, simply because most boats don't do it, and it's there! They'll make a special exception for you now you've said that and close them in July, which is a shame because I was thinking of doing the Rochdale this year... Maybe I'll go in June instead! 🤣
  5. Can you provide a current link to a HMRC page for that? It was the case some years ago, but isn't currently as far as I'm aware. There was a massive clampdown on fake "self employment" schemes a few years ago. It caused no end of panic at many firms!
  6. Anyone following current employment law? Or doesn't that matter to you? Felix Dennis
  7. M-JG uses a hyphen. M_JG uses an underscore. Do you know what a hyphen is?
  8. Yes. It's amazing how many people don't understand this, and despite comments above it's never failed me yet. If the wind is so strong it doesn't work it's probably a hurricane, and at least you're still tied to a lee shore at one end! The reverse spring (as you suggest) is much easier than the forward spring, especially when you're single handed ...
  9. I thought your narrow boat was twin engines, it's just that one was/is in the shed!

  13. Two fisheye lenses on a tripod. I've not watched the video in question, but if it's the usual kit it's just a case of set it up and hit record - no user intervention required until stopping recording.

  19. That's not so bad. I've previously done just over 4 months on a signed 48hr visitor mooring. It was handy for parking the car and about 40 feet from the services.

  21. Allow me to assist ... I saw this today and remembered this conversation!
  22. That's because they can actually get on the moorings when the summer-only boats go back in to the marinas
  23. It's on the open door below the glass. We can't see the control itself in the pics we have, but we can see part of the vent hole that will line up with the ashpan when the door is shut. I'm also concerned about what appears to be a plastic sack touching the right hand side of the stove!
  24. See pictures earlier. It has a top and bottom air control and a raised grate with an ashpan under.
