  1. All I know is that when you buy bottle beer (500ml) from Tesco at £1.97 per bottle and it's a great selection of beers, it nearly fills a pint glass. That'll do for me.
  2. You don't mean your penknife !! Oh no
  3. Many thanks. So now I should be ok for the winter coming. All this does get rather confusing eh!!
  4. The Thames generally is a fantastic voyage. I spent my time at Marlowe, Bourne End (the Bounty), Eton, Windsor and all points South/East. Stop and look at the vista as you say. Am now on the GU but miss the Thames.
  5. My apologies Tuscan if this may seem rude. I am not sure if your reply, above, is directed to my post or generally throughout this post. I picked up "bona fide" from my post as being the common denominator. Can you confirm the phrase "this period" as being the winter months and the "particular group" being those, like myself, who want to hide away during winter in a marina where at least one can get some home comforts if one can afford it. If I am being obtuse in this discussion then please set me right, otherwise please direct your comments direct to me, if they actually involve me. Cheers D
  6. Having read the above topic replies, this brings me to a question I was going to ask CRT but will ask here first due to the vast experience and knowledge. I am a CC'r with no home mooring and am registered with CRT as such and I have the 007 digits after my licence number. I do keep travelling "onward" during the spring and summer months (bona fide navigation) and have been clocked by numerous CRT gents with their electronic box, but like to spend the winter months in a marina, say October to April with all the amenities. Question; is this against the "law" of CRT or am I ok to pay for the marina charges and be off the grid for those months?
  7. Friends of Slough Canal are organising a mini litter pick and general cut back of growth prior to planting flowers and things. Meet at Bridge 8 and work towards bridge 7. Wear workish clothes and tools will be provided. Be prompt at 1030hrs for safety briefing. 2 hours max. I'm at Hemel Hempstead so unfortunately will not be there. D
  8. A memory of my time in the force (service). Just nice to have hanging around.
  9. I know how you feel. Sad day indeed. Take care.
  10. A 1½ lb axe, one of those saws in a holder, a bow saw, carpenters saw, hacksaw, 2 old fashioned police truncheons, a 6 cell Maglite, various Sabatier knives (for cooking, obviously) and a lovely red painted tiller arm to repel boarders. Next on the list will be an AK47, an Uzi and finally a H & K sidearm. Only joking of course.
  11. I copy a photo from my computer into my gallery on CWDF after I change it to the correct size etc. I then click the "my media" button in the post or reply and click on the photo I want. Then close editor and hey presto.
  12. Saw this yesterday on the GU towards Apsley. Great place for parking.
  13. Moved from Hunton Bridge to Apsley today on the GU. Followed 3 boats up and 2 boats behind me. Very quiet. Had a few pints in the Oddfellows Arms, nice.
  14. I may be in a better position than some as I've taken early retirement and now live aboard and CC. I have no financial worries, a good pension and just enjoy the outdoor life the canals offer (well, some parts anyway if stories told are believed and I have no doubt that many are true). I think that this is a very good guidance for those such as I who want to "keep to the rules" but also want to stay somewhere that might be interesting and want more time to explore. As has been said before, the enforcing part of this still has to be worked out by CaRT. I have been moored at Uxbridge for the last 3 weeks (moving on tomorrow Friday) due to the fact that I had to go for my annual full blood test at a surgery that was easily accessible from Uxbridge bus station. I have seen a data logger once in this 3 weeks. I wanted to talk to him and explain but no sign. How on earth are CaRT going to monitor these "places" if they don't employ more staff and have an up to date computer logging system that works (another topic). If they do employ more staff and upgrade their system, does that mean money then spent will be less for the repair and maintenance of the canal superstructure, locks, gates, paddles and the like? It's a strange world eh!!
  15. Any news? after unscrewing the socket and having a look at the wires behind as MtB suggested. Would be interested to know.
  16. I know it's late but I just had a look at the advert on EBay and it has been sold. Did you buy it Tom?
  17. Sorry Luctor, I missed your post #39. I am of the same frame of mind. If someone is looking for agro, give them the chance of backing away once. After that then it's game on.
  18. Dog House, don't be a dick eh, it was the newspaper report that mentioned "hoodies" in the first instance in the op's post #1. As Laurence Hogg quite admirably put it, the analogy of the hoodie/burka is to hide your face. I was in no way being racist or decrying anyone their religion. If you have nothing to hide then don't cover your face. Gettit ! Oh Luctor I wish we could.
  19. That's a bit more than scary. Hope all is well. There was a biblical downpour here middle afternoon and as someone has already said on this forum, or another I was browsing, all the animals started to pair up. It's 2225hrs and it has just started raining AGAIN!!
  20. There are a few things to consider. Why were they allowed an hour of "rampage" Answer; NO ONE called the police, quite possibly until the last incident of armed robbery. The newspaper report clearly states that the police are still trying to track down the couple who had the mobile phone robbed from them at 12.20am. Why didn't they report the crime at the time or immediately after when they could have access to a phone. Most police station front desks are now being closed at night (at least in the south) and even if they were open they are manned by civilian staff BUT who are trained to respond and will also have the backing of regular officers (that's if they are open) All police areas have an armed response unit which would have been deployed within minutes and would have been at the scene quite quickly, depending on travel distance, but blues and twos would have put these little scroats off IF ANYBODY HAD REPORTED THE FIRST, SECOND OR THIRD SIGHTING. Edit to add: I have been on the front line. If we are thinking, as in France, to ban the burkha, then here I have to blame Rocky Bilboa, we should ban the hoodie.
  21. Very slightly and I will call Tuckeys for a price but as a quick reference, does anyone know the cost of hauling a 50' x 6'10" to France (the nearest canal that is available) ?
  22. Wind really starting to blow now. Boat rocking a wee bit.
  23. Hey Doodlebug, If you fit one of those to your boat it would turn it into one of those swamp boats or airboats they use down south USA
  24. VERY un pc Fudd. Surely you meant to say "do as you likey"
