Sadly, we live in a world with some very horrible human beings. Cruel acts to animals seem to be on the increase ( I volunteer in an animal sanctuary) and the amount of cats and dogs abandoned towards Christmas would surprise many folk who still think of Great Britain as a nation of animal lovers. For someone to deliberately set out to hurt an animal, and inflict as much pain as possible, IMO shows that person to be very dangerous indeed, with a lack of compassion. I am a dog owner and have owned various animals over the years ( well with 4 saplings, it kinda goes with the job lol). I have also owned several English BullTerriers not because they are 'tasty' dogs, but because I fell in love with the breed after watching Oliver Twist when I was 7yrs old, and they were the most gentle, intelligent and loving dogs I have ever owned. Lets hope that the culprit/culprits are found, being a bit nieve here, but I do hope so. At the end of the day it is all about teaching people and that I believe starts in the home.

  9. As previous people have given very good advice, here are a few safety precautions that I did when living on a 70ft trad, with my two eldest saplings ( toddlers) (1) Life jackets, (2) Child safety gates at front and back of the boat and one in the engine room, (3) Safety cooker gate for top of the cooker and a fitted fire-guard for the stove, (4) Childproof catches and locks for the cupboards and doors, (5) Rounded edge coverings for units and table, (6) First-aid kit ( plus a few lollies and sweets (7) MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL IS TO TALK TO THE CHILD/CHILDREN IN YOUR CARE, explain to them the dangers as lickle people are very bright and respond better to this way of teaching than just saying 'No!! dont touch that , or stay inside. Infact I was more worried about their safety when we moved back 'on-land' than I ever was when we lived aboard. tree = mother of 4 ( yes! I did have a telly saplings I am and have been working in the Social Care sector for over 30years ( hmm... maybe that is why I am so wacky I am sure that you and your good lady will have all the safety procedures covered, now all that is left is for you all to enjoy happy and wonderful days out on the cut, teaching the lickle one all the wonders of our boating heritage, enjoy
  10. If everyone just tried to treat each other the same way, that they would like to be treated and also remember that good manners cost nowt all would be well. The majority of people who view and become members of this forum do so because they are seeking information regarding their boats. It is so sad when debates turn into 'slanging matches' as all this does is turn people away from the forum. Life is hard enough as it is and the future of our beautiful waterways is a concern to all of us, so members remember we are here to support and help each other with advice and guidance, so please be nice to everyone and if any one starts to 'troll' then IGNORE THEM, its as SIMPLE as that. tree

  20. Welcome to the forum you will receive a lot of good advice here and as for being a 'newbie' well non of us is too old to learn new things. Sometimes regarding a product its a case of finding out as much information as possible as well as asking other folk, which you are doing.
  21. Yikes!! flipping nora, carlt must have seen me in my welldeck lol , opps!! yer forgot the knitting needles hahahah to be honest I would have loved to have bought a 'tug' instead of my cruiser-style n/b, but I have pets and I like the extra outdoor space I get, especially when it is raining and I am sat all cosy in the welldeck with the cratch cover doing my knitting lol. Mind you if ever I win the con , opps lottery then I will get myself a 'tug' just so that I can park classic motorbike&sidecar on it I quite agree with all the above points made in this post. As a future liveaboard my reason for a front cratch cover and a rear pramcover on my boat is purely for 'liveaboard storage space' and a place for my dog fred to chill out as well as a cosy retreat for me from fred lol
