  1. And they work reasonably well 'at sea'. Some are even reversible, stand them upright when anchored and you have a wind generator, turn them upside down and you have a water driven "Hydro" generator when cruising. DuoGen 3 – Wind & Water Generator – Hybrid Generator – Micro Wind Turbines manufactured by Eclectic Energy Ltd (eclectic-energy.co.uk) Assume the output at 7 knots is a typo ? Water mode performance 8amps at 6 knots (100W) 190 Ah per day 5 amps at 7 knots (150W) 275 Ah per day 16 amps at 8 knots (200W) 380 Ah per day Minimal loss of boat speed Easy to deploy and recover Proven in all sea states Can provide all the power for a yacht on passage Wind mode performance 5 amps at 10 knots wind speed (30W) 6 amps at 15 knots wind speed (75W) 11 amps at 20 knots wind speed (140W)
  2. A duplicate of the one posted a few days ago.
  3. That's Brill, but I do sometimes Flounder. Anyway, it helps pass the time when you are Abalone
  4. Since the closure of the Aluminium smelting plant the area has been almost bereft of any meaningful employment opportunities. An additonal ice cream or burger van 'on the front' almost doubles the number of people working in the town. In principal it will be welcomed, additional housing and boats will bring much needed custom to the shops, restaurants etc. We spent many years moored in Holyhead, firstly on the sailing club swinging moorings, and latterly in the (what will now become) 'old marina' (the one that was swept away in the storn a few years ago). Assuming we are still boating when it opens, we will certainly move back to Holyhead as it is the ONLY Harbour / Marina on the West coast that is accesible at all states of the tide.
  5. Well, Holyhead certainly needs something to bring it into the 20C, let alone the 21C. It is still of the mind that it is a Victorian railway terminus. Scruffy, Grimy and the only reason to go there is to get off the train and onto the ferry. It never cease to amaze me that the big Cruise ships actually call in and the passengers all get off (using the lifeboats) and spend a few hours walking around 'historic Holyhead'. It must just be like visiting the Zoo, (something to tell your friends about how bad it was.)
  6. If that's the draught I'd go somewhere else. They always used to say that the 'Shipstones' beer changed its taste & the product improved when they finally got rid of their last 50 horses (in the 60's) and started using trucks for the local deliveries.. They were our local Nottingham brewery and survived 139 years, finally closing the doors in 1991.
  7. And of course in all areas of business there are the "cowboys"
  8. Maybe the latest surveyor was a little more diligent or experienced that the previous one. The 'quality' of surveyors is very variable as there are no qualifications required to call yourself a surveyor. (A lot of people are surprised by that).
  9. Boat holed / corroded a new piece of 6mm steel overplated (shows on the test as a single thickness only) between surveys ?
  10. Those prices include VAT so my 38.5p (exc VAT) in February was about the average. The chart doe not go to 20th October but was starting to show a fall in September. The prices I was quoted for 1500 litres (exc VAT) were : 60p + 58.45p 58.65p And my most frequent supplier (you can seee why) 51.9p Boiler Juice were quoting 70p for delivery sometime within 2 weeks and 63.85p for delivery sometime within 3 weeks.
  11. Is that where then make the tinned fish .................. O'No, I mentioned fish again, things will now be very BLEAK
  12. @MartynG said : I dare say it has . But 42p was abnormally low was it not? But you have quoted prices for diesel not Kerosene That is the problem when you look at average prices, some are considerably lower, whilst some folks don't phone around don't 'play the game' and just accept 'market' prices. For Kero : I paid 38.45p Feb 2021 and just paid 51.9p this week. Same supplier and both deliveries for 1500 litres. I had one supplier who would not give me a price for this weeks delivery saying the pricing was too volatile and they would give me a price on the morning of delivery once the tanker was loaded, when pushed, they said it would be well over the 60p mark. They showed no concern when I told them I had a 'fixed price' quoted of the 51.9p
  13. Latest images of multi-million pound North Wales marina development as plans submitted - North Wales Live (dailypost.co.uk) The proposed development will include a 250-berth marina, 259 townhouses and apartments, marine commercial and additional A1/A3 retail units on the waterfront, together with substantial areas of improved public realm, and an amphitheatre and covered arcade for open-air events. There would be a new breakwater erected to provide additional shelter, with the existing marina - owned by a different company - badly damaged in Storm Emma in 2018. Listed buildings Soldiers Point House and Porth-y-Felin House would be restored and converted into apartments.
  14. Once you get to around 20mph that is quite a 'noticable wind' with (on open water) waves, white horses and spray. I'd say that because of the secluded nature of the majority of canals (in valleys, under trees, protected by housing etc) the wind would rarely get anywhere near that strength. Given a choice we would not venture out onto the sea, in the motor cruiser, in those sorts of wind speeds, far too lumpy and wet.
  15. You do realise that the person you are replying to has not logged onto the forum for over 12 months, only started this one thread and didn't come back.
  16. I realise the suggestion was in jest, but (todays prices): 4kg Zinc anode = ~ £47 4kg Mag anode = ~£38 Availability (Force 4 Chandlery) "In stock"
  17. There is very little 'less-noble' than Magnesium, specific anode grades of 'Alloys of Aluminium' is the next lowest practical metal. It will protect mild steel but not as well as Magnesium. Alternatively build the boats from Passive stainless steel, Titanium, or Silver (Platinum or gold would be too expensive)
  18. Europe runs out of Magnesium by end on Novemeber. Fears are growing among European leaders that the EU's industrial recovery from the pandemic is about to be undercut by yet another supply shock: a shortage of Chinese magnesium, which is vital to sectors such as cars, planes and electronics. More than 95 percent of Europe's magnesium comes from China but the country is slashing back output amid nationwide energy shortages. China is, by far, the world's biggest producer, meaning it would be hard for smaller producers such as Russia and Israel to step in and fill huge shortfalls. The immediate problem is that China's factories are now partially closed owing to nationwide energy shortages, and exports of magnesium are plummeting. In the EU, stock of the mineral now risks running out by the end of November, according to a joint statement issued on Friday by a dozen industry groups, including European Aluminium and the European Steel Association. The groups warned about "far-reaching ramifications on entire European Union value chains," saying the construction and packaging industries are also feeling the heat. "Without urgent action by the European Union, this issue, if not resolved, threatens thousands of businesses across Europe, their entire supply chains, and the millions of jobs that rely on them," they said. 19. Ahhhh - the Comfort Seat version - just be careful about using the other buttons .................... A man traveling by plane and in urgent need to use the mens room is nervously tapping his foot on the floor of the aircraft. Each time he tried the mens room door, it was "OCCUPIED". The stewardess, aware of his predicament suggested that he go ahead and use the ladies room, but cautioned him against using any of the buttons inside. The buttons were marked "WW, WA, PP and ATR". Making the mistake that so many men make in disregarding the importance of what a woman says, the man let his curiosity get the best of him and decided to try the buttons anyway. He carefully pressed the first button marked "WW" and immediately warm water sprayed all over his entire bottom. He thought, "WOW, the women really have it made!". Still curious, he pressed the button marked "WA" and a gentle breeze of warm air quickly dried his hind quarters. He thought that was out of this world! The button marked "PP" yielded a large powder puff which delicately applied a soft talc to his rear. Well, naturally he couldn't resist the last button marked "ATR". When he woke up in the hospital he panicked and buzzed for the nurse. When she appeared, he cried out, "What happened to me?! The last thing I remember is I was in the ladies room on a business trip!" The nurse replied, "Yes, you were having a great time until you pressed the 'ATR' button which stands for Automatic Tampon Remover... Your penis is under your pillow!"
  20. Many suppliers will deliver 205 litre barrels, or a minimum of 500 litres 'loose' Edit to add one barrel supplier : Red Diesel Suppliers - Nationwide Gas Oil Deliveries | Speedy Fuels Just google 'barrels of red diesel' to get dozens of hits.
  21. My insurers ask for the 'value of contents' (non fixed appliances, bedding, etc etc) and 'personal possessions',(clothes, computer, phones etc) give them the figures and that's what the insurance value covers.
