  1. A 22 minute echo in here ..................................
  2. I think they have plenty to be going on with (and why on earth they want to have 6 historic battlefields and 2708 listed buildings ...........................) .....................
  3. All you need do is to look at the annual accounts, which have been published for some time - there is all of the information you request presented in various different ways. You may find it of interest thaT C&RTs income from water licences (fees for extraction and discharge) and utilities is not much less than all of the boating activities added together. C&RTs 'boating income' was previously much higher, but they sold off all their marinas a couple of years ago so that affected both their income and bottom line.
  4. Maybe the one we had was faulty, I could not measure any appreciable difference between with it & without it. Gave it away FOC, that was probably the only time someone paid the correct amount for one.
  5. You mean : Keep Away. No, Don't Ask and No Boats Travel Anywhere
  6. Even Aldi customers have enough sense to know that these fans are 'snake oil' and won't buy them. The ones on sale now are still the original batch that Aldi brought out 5 years ago (and the supplier refused to take them back - as they had been trying to sell them for 5 years and failed)
  7. I think the thread may have legs - a lot of people would be interested in this.
  8. If you sell the boat then you will be no longer be responsible for moving it so don't worry - sell the boat, move outside the UK and be happy. 14 days is the maximum allowable, but some areas you can moor are limited to 2 hours, or 24 hours or 48 hours or 7 days, so you need to look carefully where you are mooring to find which duration of mooring you are using. No If you want to stay in a place without moving then you need to pay for a permanent mooring. Costs vary between £2000 and £15,000 per year depending on where you are in the country (London is very expensive, the North is much cheaper) and what facilities the mooring has (water, electricity etc)
  9. I don't think you are allowed to ask questions like that.
  10. There is a very valid argument that they are actually acknowledging that they are incapable of achieving 2.2 and feel that the buildings & infrastructure covered by 2.2 would be better conserved and protected by others who have the competence and skills needed.
  11. You do appreciate the difference between 'fly-ash' and the ash from the bottom of your SF stove ? Fly ash is a fine powder recovered from gases created by the burning of coal.
  12. Thre is no need to handle the ash - out of the fire with a shovel, tip it into the ash-bucket, tip-ash bucket down the outside of the lock gate to seal the leaks. "Untouched by human hand"
  13. You have much to learn grasshopper : Coal ash is incredibly dangerous. Short-term exposure can bring irritation of the nose and throat, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and shortness of breath. Long-term exposure can lead to liver damage, kidney damage, cardiac arrhythmia, and a variety of cancers. Coal ash contains contaminants like mercury, cadmium and arsenic. Without proper management, these contaminants can pollute waterways, ground water, drinking water, and the air

  15. Why would you expect the Aldi one to be more effective than any of the others ?

  17. If you are refering to my previous post, it was in response to a question Jo asked me. "Where did that come from ?"
  18. But is 100% of the capital raised by sale of heritage properties re-invested ? A company can only go on for so long spending more than its income - at some point it has to sell off some of the family silver. 2019/2020 = Income £216.1m / Expenditure £232.8m 2020/2021 = Income £215.4m / Expenditure £221.3m Whilst not a good place for a busines to be in they are not considered as trading whilst insolvent as if they sold off all of their assets they would be able to recover sufficient to more than cover their liabilities.
  19. Tis interesting that in this years accounts package C&RT have also included, under 'donations', a sum of £3.8m paid to C&RT as part of the Covid Job Retention scheme. Cut & paste from the 2020/21 Accounts package : Donations and legacies The Trust is a direct beneficiary of the People’s Postcode Lottery, raising a net £4.6m from seven draws (2019/20: £2.9m from five draws). The number of ‘Friends’ regularly supporting the Trust has decreased from 30,049 to 27,721, with income from Friends remaining consistent at £3.0m. Corporate fundraising income reduced by £0.4m due to a large one-off receipt of £0.3m in 2019/20. Also included in donations and legacies is £3.8m from the Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme
  20. From a number of your posts telling us you could not put up with their behaviour, language etc etc.
  21. It must have changed today - at COP26, as of yesterday, it was still "Climate Change"
  22. Then as she failed to reach any of her targets during her 4 year term, she had either hoodwinked C&RT about her abilities, or she was unaware of her own limitations and exagerated her skills with excessive targets that she was unable to achieve. I seem to remember that C&RT actually 'watered down' her forecasts by 25% to act as a 'safety net' in case they were over optimistic, yet they /she failed to even achieve the reduced targets.
  23. Yes I did, and stand by it. Jo has had nothing but problems and bad luck since she purchased the boat : Bad neighbours on the moorings Workmen who have not turned up to do a job Workmen who have started the job and then left part way thru' She has had 4 (or is it 5) electricians none of whom were apparently competent and so it goes on.
  24. I think the last 10 years has shown that there is no particular public interest or appetite for the canals, tin-rattlers, newspaper articles, open days and even £ 100's of thousands spent on TV advertising the 'public' is not generating any income. The expenditure of raising 'giving' has far exceeded the income. C&RT need to convince the Government that there are 'public benefits' and they are doing this with all sorts of weird statistics that experts have been commisioned to produce. If the Governement can see some 'benefits' to offset (eg healthly exercise vs hospital bills) then they may decide to continue the grant. Have you looked at the actual conditions and targets that must be met to retain the grant - keeping the Navigation open is conspicuous by its absence. No longer relevant as I am no longer on CRT waters., but, if I was to pay 2x or 3x the licence fee I'd expect to have some say in the way it is spent. If that happened then yes, I would pay more. Start to charge for what they are legally allowed to charge for - they can even charge for visitors moorings if they so wish. Implement the existing bylaws Introduce new by-laws. Review licence fee structure such that (as previously proposed) 'the user pays' CCers pay 3x the fee that a non CCer pays, I have a number of times posted their original proposals which they were 'to frightened' to introduce. I'm sure if they actually employed someone (not a pyramid of 20 people) experienced with other charities to look at other options of fund raising. Look to see how they could introduce a 'membership system' and what benefits members could get over non-members.
