  1. I think the macerator chops everything up to a fine enough state to be no problem (fitted about 10 years ago without problems). Not sure if using posh toilet paper in a dump through would work.
  2. This may help https://www.boatsafetyscheme.org/requirements-examinations-certification/hire-boats-requirements-2017/additional-hire-boat-requirements/
  3. I fitted a couple of float switches (4” & 1”) which light up an orange and a red led as the tank fills. Fitted straight after a pump out, wasn’t my most enjoyable job!!!
  4. The planning objections from all the posh houses that don’t want residential moorings by their front door.
  5. Maybe because most people think it is a reasonable to have a licence as a condition for mooring in the marina.
  6. And if the marina doesn’t stay in business then it will close and all boats must leave. So either way you aren’t staying without a licence
  7. I wouldn’t as the law concerning making unreasonable contract conditions unenforceable would apply. However no one has ever managed to convince a court that having a licence is a condition of mooring in a marina to be an unreasonable condition.
  8. By payment I assume you mean the licence, in which case it is ‘due’ if you wish to keep your boat in that marina as it is a contractual requirement in the agreement between the boater and the marina.
  9. Correct in that they can not take action against the boat but they will take action against the marina if the marina doesn’t take action against the boat.
  10. I didn’t say it did. As I said, an unlicensed boat in the marina is the marina’s problem to sort out if they don’t wish to break their (the marina) agreement with CRT.
  11. Basically correct, but if the marina wishes to connect to the canal then crt require that the marina must agree to only allow boats with a crt licence to stay. So if an unlicensed boat is in the marina crt can not take action against the boat/boater but the marina would be in breach of it’s agreement with crt, so crt can take action against the marina, for example by closing the marina access to the canal. To avoid this situation the marina requires in it’s agreement with boaters that boats are licensed, if a boat is unlicensed then it’s the responsibility of the marina to enforce it’s agreement with the boater.
  12. I had spray foam done 13 years ago and it’s great. If paying someone to do it make sure you tell them when they quote you want it thick, approx flush with the wooden bearers for the lining. That way it’s warm in winter and much cooler in summer. The downside is I agreed to trim it back where it was too thick. Spent a few days with a bread knife.
  13. Looking at their web site it seems that values less than 11ppm display as zero, so don’t expect a tiny number
  14. I think it states “fuel used by an engine to move or (engine used to) provide electric power", the intention being to allow older Diesel engines that emit smoke to generate power whilst moored.
  15. From the uk gov statuary guidance Moored vessels You must consult with the public before you can apply the smoke control area rules to vessels that are moored or stationary at a mooring place, including canal boats, to stop them emitting a substantial amount of smoke. Smoke emissions are allowed from fuel used by an engine to move or provide electric power to the vessel. You can exempt specified vessels or classes of vessel from your smoke control area rules. The providing electric power specifically states ‘engine’ so would exclude a stove with a thermoelectric generator. But it does appear that smoke is only smoke when excessive, and that is not defined……
  16. Have a read of these https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/smoke-control-area-enforcement-local-authorities-in-england/smoke-control-area-enforcement-by-local-authorities-in-england https://www.gov.uk/smoke-control-area-rules Many reasonable questions you can ask the council, starting with “how much smoke is reasonable” as the legislation clearly allows some smoke from correctly burned approved smokeless fuel. What evidence do they have that you were emitting excessive smoke. Etc
  17. I think the nearest branch with a teller rather than a room with machines is about 20 miles away, so cashing-up must be becoming difficult for small businesses. The last bank in our town has just closed, so it’s not like I have a choice.
  18. Maybe they had and this is part of their money raising strategy………. Not sure if it’s like the licence fee where you get a discount paying on-line rather than by phone, but if it is should save you something next year
  19. I think Virgin is in the process of moving onto O2 so you may see a change.
  20. But if you do you will know when it’s good and dry🤣
  21. So long as the pallets aren’t treated. I believe imported pallets are usually treated and if from China who knows with what…..
  22. Agree, you can’t beat wood for a quick hot burn, but for good steady heat I like Homefire, or Homefire eCoal (~50% olive stones!!) or for late in the day Phurnacite which stays in well overnight.
