  1. I don't think the hike will be as bad as many suggest, however I do agree something needs to be done. I do have a few ideas that could work. 1 all boats need to have a home mooring, whether CC, marina Based or holiday boats. you do not have to stay there, you must register there. All cc boats need to pay an additional cost per annum to use the system. 2 marinas, lineage moorings, private moorings are responsible to collect said fees. fines in place for those marinas who do not comply 3 Any craft without said licence provision will be given 2 weeks to get licence, failure to get license after aid date will result in removal of craft from waterway (sold on or scrapped) 4 Wide beams by their nature take up more water surface, so need to be charged accordingly. 5 Every boater pays 15% increase spread over 2 years This is an extreme example in an ideal world, however it could be achieved with a few tweeks
  2. Hello all I need some help please, I have a friend who is wishing to sell his home and move onto the water, now I have lived on the water previously, and my wife and I are currently ready to embark on a new life afloat. It doesn't seem to matter how I explain things to them, they are just panicking that the sale of the house wont be completed, the boat wont pass a survey, this will happen, that will happen. I have tried to explain everything as best I can, however I feel I now need help, can anyone who sold their home to fund this lifestyle please comment how easy it was so I can show him. The fact that we are buying a boat and renting our home out, should not be a barrier to them selling and then buying a boat. He has his head screwed on when it comes to the boat and how they will live, just struggling with that step........................................help lol
  3. Hi everyone, was just wondering if any of the liveaboards make there own country wines/beers on the boat? I used to many years ago on land, however I've got an urge to start again
  4. Very interesting.......thank you Thats awesome thank you, I shall have a closer look
  5. I say give boaters nothing. Lets prove living afloat is not a cheaper way to live, don't make it easier

    solar

Hello again everyone, back up and running after my illness, I am looing at a boat which has no solar, but as it has a washing machine, and we will be CCers (not Cmers) and full time live aboards we are looking at what we need. My opinion is go as max as possible on a 57ft boat, with the assumption that once the batteries are full the rest of the solar could heat the water. What set ups do you guys have, and what would be your recommendations please. Need as much help on this as possible. My budget will be £3k
  7. I remember a few years back coming off the Macc and heading to Etruria when a boat on the T&M Cut across our path. heading for the tunnel. Moored up and got chatting, after following them through the Harecastle tunnel and mooring again behind them on the Caldon at Eutraria, the gentleman asked me where the Macclesfield canal was. Imagine the look of horror when I mention it was where the place I first waved at you as you passed my bow 🤣
  8. No its a dwelling, a dwelling is charged CT 👍 I never said house, I said home
  9. I was always lead to believe that if you pay CT on a property, then have a holiday home ( which a boat is) the you have to pay CT for both, all Beit at a reduced rate for the holiday home.
  10. ooooooh now LadyG that idea hadn't crossed my mind. now thats an idea worth perusing When I first bought Nb Whisper about 18yrs ago I didn't sell the house, when I bought Jabez No2 the sale of whisper paid for Jabez. I'm not entirely sure myself how that wold work out, as we know solicitors are not the fastest of workers
  11. I have owned narrowboats in the past, and had holidays, its just the right time to find our last boat. You haven't met my relatives 🤣 We will be keeping 1 car until we find the right girl 👍
  12. Definitely giving them a look at.................................many thanks indeed
  13. Thank you sir I shall have a look at them. much appreciated sir
  14. OMG London not a chance, we will be CCers, and that is exactly what we shall do until a time we are either infirm or have died. Not looking at hiring from individuals as I have heard the horror stories from others.. Thankyou so much though for taking the time to respond Thats a very valid point, I think as I've sat for 5 years enjoying retirement is time that much of an issue? yes we could wait a few months I'm guessing. The issue is if I don't find the right boat before the house sale, it's that little bit of time between the both, that is starting to stress me
