  2. and here come the assumptions based on an ad they are the lovely couple moored in front of us who work hard to keep their boat and have recently been able to find a mooring to get their kids into a lovely little school, they were thrilled to have been chosen and that they thought they could put over a nice view of family life on the cut so a good little film to be used as an ad which shows the joy of the canals and the people who inhabit it becomes the start of erroneous claims of continuous moorers, people who don't care about their boat and how they prefer to spend their money on technology than the upkeep of their boat, which you could not be more wrong about The internet has made the world a smaller place and some people should really think about that, people do have feeling you know and how would you feel This is not the first time people on her have been rude about boaters I know, I have always tried to rise above it but this is a step too far Shame on you

  6. Sorry to cause any arguement. I saw the film on YouTube and just wanted to share it. I'm not a boater myself, but used to live near the canal and always liked idea of the way of life. I just liked it, and thought this would be a good place to share it with people who might enjoy it. No harm intended. Personally I think the family seen really nice.

  12. #4 son completed his printer build yesterday and did his first print. It was great to see it working first time. If nothing else it has been a great experience for him, learning new skills and achieving levels of concentration, patience and precision previously unseen..

  15. Mibix - just for future reference (so you can check the approximate state of charge of your batteries) here is a table showing state of charge Vs Voltage. This is the voltage reading after a couple of hours after turning off the charger / engine. This allows the surface charge to dissipate (if you take the reading immediately after turning off the charger you should find it at least 1 volt higher.) It is recommended (to maximise battery life) that you do not let the SOC (state of charge) fall below 50% If you have been down to 11v then your batteries are deceased, dead, defunct, & no longer of this world. Replace them and run your engine (assuming the alternator is working correctly) for a minimum of 4 hours a day and 8 hours at a weekend. This should help you keep some charge in the batteries but until you do a full audit of use against input you stand a change of knackering your new batteries again within a very short time (weeks)

  16. I need to fully charge my domestic batteries. They've been quite low for a while now, and I need to give them a full charge to get them up to scratch. Just a few questions if I may... I don't have a battery charger or generator, and am a CCer so no shore line. Go and have a bloomin good days cruise, at the end of it, turn round and come back. Or if you enjoy it, carry on a bit further. If your batteries are saveable, this is probably the easiest way to do it. ...and it's quite enjoyable too.

  17. No pictures, "it's still not done." I in no way begrudge the rates that pro painters charge and did know that my own painting was going to be a bodge job. Not all of us can afford to drop several grand on something aesthetic though, and honestly, my boat with a back-to-metal mirror smooth see your face in it pro paint job would look, well, odd. They paint boats in the wet dock near where I am at the mo... There's a large amount of swallows (or swifts?) living in there. I dunno how they resolve this issue! Strangely, no birds shit on my boat at any crucial points. I did have issues with the paint flies though: "Dear Mother nature I'm hitting you up about the memo I sent you last week, advising you of my intentions to use blue paint today. I know you got the memo, because my compulsory consignment of paint flies arrived today, right on schedule. However, there's been an error somewhere along the line; I requested the complimentary blue paint flies, but instead I've received the starkly contrasting black ones and yellow ones. Can you sort this out for me before I carry on tomorrow please? Thanks."
