  3. But it would be good to have a DFZ (Dog free zone) for those of us who are not as happy around dogs as others. I have to admit to being a slight dogophobe at the moment.

  6. Derek, I dont thank you for your comments, theres been quite a lot of time spent on this and you obviously do not understand what is being done. I cannot show you all the results as this website cannot display the images at the resolution. "Your enhancement is questionable" - why? Do you understand the process even? Attitudes like yours make me feel "why bother", I can spend my time doing more profitable things. That aside the new image that has come from more powerful software has shown us more detail, even at the res available here it is definate that the first letter is a "T". There scond letter is probably a "R" or a "H". This would point ot Trent or Thames, both are shown as 1899 registered boats and Thames is ex Joseph Phipkin which might explain the odd "canal Carrier" (partial repaint?). Anyhow judge for yourselves, here is the image:

  7. When was this TAY built Laurence? - and how does it fit with the pre-1903 lock gates? Either whatever information is available on TAY is incorrect, or we have a precursor to the USS Eldridge phenomena. Honestly, blown up to those proportions you could suppose a number of characters to be available from that bunch of pixels. It is unreadable.

  14. In my post # 8, I wrote already that my guess would be for icebreaking, or to counteract the upsweap of the bottom-plate, the same suggestion as several of you've made too. There was nobody around to answer my question about this strange addition, and I didn't look good enough at the boat to see that she is wider than a narrowboat. With the details that Alan Fincher found, I see that I should have looked better, but I was looking too much as this very strange addition that I didn't pay enough attention to the rest. Here's another photo to show that it's not just on one side. Peter. edited to say that there's no lack of fenders on this boat, pretty safe like that for a boat ashore I would think.

  16. I've reached no opinions on anyone. Alot of stuff is said on forums but when it comes down to it common sense usually prevails...someone has to be a real ar*ehole to refuse just for the sake of it, and those types are well outnumbered. I mean its not like its for life, a year, a month, a week, or even a day, bloody hell its normally only overnight. On the other hand you have to be a real dick to do it when its not necessary. I was just enquiring what the general concensus was on it now. I didn't realise it had been done to death before, but then again what hasn't. This mainly because we are doing rivers again - where it seems its still an OK thing to do.

  17. Holy crap...!!! 10 years later - and after lots of encounters with some really nice folk and only one with a weirdo - I look at it completely differently. I dont give a sh*t about "I set off early so I could get here first and get the best spot"...or.."You cant organise your life properly"...WTF is that. !!!! Why do people think that for the sake of arriving 10mins earlier they have the right to be there and you dont. "I dont like my boat being rocked"...."I like to see out my windows"..."You didn't buy the right boat"..."I dont want a piece of plastic in my window". "I cant be arsed to walk my dogs across the back of someones boat"..unbelievable. In other words "I'm a right miserable b*stard and I wish you'd all just go away".
