  1. What a load of crap. Only a tedious little troll whose sole aim is to catch me out would interpret it as how you have twisted it. Unlike you I don't care what the OP, or anyone else for that matter, does with their lives. You are the nasty little man who tries to enforce your warped morality on other peoples' lives and once again, your blinkered attitude to life stops you from seeing that there are people about who aren't so horrible and don't wish to interfere in other folks affairs. You try to twist a wish for a more pleasant situation into one of your sordid little busybody traits so you can stand up and say "Look! Carlt is is just as narrow minded, judgemental and nasty as me!" Well I'm not Dave and you're not worth responding to any more because you are just a troll.

  3. As you and MB headed off to the pub on Sunday with Reginald and 'passengers', both Alan and I were packing up so that I could go back to work on Monday. We looked back and saw you all chugging into the evening glow - in just about the same position as you are in this photo, and both felt a real pang of, not jealousy, but wistfulness. I have to echo the comments of others. We 'long term members' (I post so rarely in the 'real forum' rather than the virtual pub, that I am still not a 'long standing member' after nearly 7 years!), have seen so many people arrive full of 'getting a boat and living on it', and then disappear(sometimes acrimoniously), never to be heard of again. I'm sure that many of us would not have been surprised if you had been another. You have not only embraced boating, but historic boats too, and shown yourself to have a considerable sense of humour and ability with words. You've stood your ground in debates, and not been bowed by the 'forum mafia' *. And, whatever my OH says, I'm sure that your hair colour is as natural as mine.

  4. They have also single handedly resolved the problems with the dangerous handrails being fitted to lock tail bridges such as at Falling Sands, (allegedly!) Oh, and it is solely their campaigning that has forced BW to lift the restrictions at the major GU lock flights, (allegedly, again!). Dear old NBW can even publish a picture clearly of a normal by-wash beside a lock, and claim it is an overflow from one of the reservoirs. The problem is some people don't have to knowledge, or the questioning skills, to realise that "our man on the spot" is often feeding them total bollocks. It is a shameful site, but the worst thing about it is not they regularly get it wrong, but that "Victor" will not publish a correction when it can be clearly demonstrated they have.

  5. For the record: British Waterways / Canal & River Trust invites Tom to its press briefings at which he, or his reporter, would have a chance to quiz the BW directors. He declines to attend.

  6. Well I think there are a number of relevent similarities between BW and CaRT that may be a good inticator of the competence of the directors but really thats besides the point. My point is that you suggested that Tom (in publishing the article refered to by the original poster)predicted the collapse of the CaRT. He didn't The OP suggested that Tom (in publishing the article) suggested that the subsidiary company was created as a vehicle skim off charity funds as directors salarys. He didn't I'm not familiar with Tom or his website, I had a quick look this morning and it didn't seem particularly contoversial. I gather that you and and others contributing to this thread believe that Tom and his website have an unshakable point of view and will twist the evidence to support his predudice............Rather like your treatment of Tom really! By all means vilify him....but do it fairly

  9. My day gets ever more frustrating... second time I have typed this reply, lost the first! Thank you all for your replies very helpful and informative. I have learnt a lesson and will get a space asap, thanks Churchward for the info, that may save me a few pounds. I did cycle to the Wolverhampton Halfords, nowhere to lock up a bike... and they did not have one that would fit, some shorter and some the same size, nothing in between. So it will be down to RCR to sort at 10am tomorrow. I called them at 9.35 this morning and an engineer arrived after 1pm, nice fella, topped up the water and opened the thermostat 'bolt' and bled some air, ran the engine under load and all was well, he advised my alternator belt was at its limits and he could not tighten it more. cruised on for a couple of miles and the battery charge alarm and red light came on... am I right in thinking these two problems are linked?? So another call to RCR 3.25pm .... lady says the computers have just crashed and she will call me back.... I call back at 4pm and it is clear the first person completely forgot/disregarded my call. They tell me 10am..... they had better have a belt spare alternator and be on time. I'll let you know. Once again, thank you I will be better prepared next time ! Nev

  10. I did not say anybody should do anything Dave. It is you who tells people what they should or shouldn't do. I suggested that it would be nice if we only claimed what we needed and I am happy that I and my OH discussed our children's needs and whether we should or shouldn't claim CB far more intently than the vast majority of couples, before putting in a CB claim. I have not lectured anybody and your insistence that I justify my opinion is pretty idiotic, considering the high and mighty condemnations that you dole out. You have reduced your debating technique down to a mere attempt at character assassination and, before you put words in my mouth, I suggest you go back and read what I said before twisting it into a pathetic little lie, to devalue my argument. For the record, Dave, this is what I said before you diverted the discussion into a personal attack on my private affairs:

  12. I agree, a great day, with a nice relaxed atmosphere. Lily-Mae had her first boating experience aboard 'Linnet' for the parade which she thoroughly enjoyed and waved at most people!!!!!! Looking forward to going back tomorrow. Dan
