Reason: Repair

 

Update on 18/02/2015:

 

This stoppage has been extended slightly due to the amount of debris found in this lock, specialist contractors are required to remove and dispose of this safely.

 

Anyone know why they need specialists? Something toxic?

Not sure why they need specialists, but I've always found it to be the worst lock on the river to operate as well as the most rubbish filled.

Walked by last week with the dog and the lock was empty but there was a lot of debris in there, but didnt look like anything that needed specialist treatment.

According to the local IWA branch there were 7 safes in the bottom all empty!! I saw a beer barrel ( bet that was empty too!!)

When did the Soar reverse it's direction of flow ? . . . . . presumably at the same time as Memory Lane Wharf (arm) was moved to below Limekiln Lock !

Having been through there several times can't say I'm totally surprised. Maybe it'll be a bit easier to move the gates when they finish clearing it out.

I do remember that being one of the difficult ones when we went through 2 years ago. Should be going through there again in June

It is easy to put stuff in there as there is a road alongside the lock with no fence.

I know , I live half a mile from there at the moment.

looks like all the local safe breakers dumped there empty swag boxes in there.
