Point of order m'lud!  Your bilge got wet because water came in, not because it didn't subsequently get pumped out. ;)

Second point of order... it’s a cruiser stern and hence will continue to get wet.

Perhaps I should have said it got wet because the drainage channels got clogged up, thus allowing more water than is usual to get into the engine hole bilge. Then, because the bilge pump had failed, and I didn’t bother to fix either issue, the bilge stayed fuller of water than is usual, thus causing the rusty bottom to get much worse.

I know that - it's one reason why I don't have that arrangement (which is why, touch wood, my bilge pump has never seen action and my bilge is dry.  I just though Richard's bilge pump was not guilty as charged and deserved a proper hearing! :D

Our cruiser stern only got water in once when the boat was water jetted for blacking. For 12 months it's been totally dry.

Looks like the design of the deck boards and drain holes is very good.

But you have to take it out of the boathouse some time...

There can be no reasonable doubt that everything is innocent, and I am the guilty party! ?
