Horrendous is not the word I will agree, but certainly not trivial and going to cost, the Aluminium Frames are bent, possibly leading to leaks, approx £200 each + fitting,  so say £500 plus inconvenience, cannot ascertain paint damage from photos. if they are unable to make an insurance claim because of insurance excess (I know ours is in the region of £500) it would have to come from the owners pocket. Lots of hassle due to a liability of an ignorant person.

If you choose to insure your boat with such a high excess then that is the gamble you take should you need to make a claim.

Our excess is £100. It might make the premium a few more quid a year, literally but when we did make a claim this year for damage sustained whilst in Scotland it didn't cause any concern.

Even less so when we realised we had marina benefits so the excess wasn't deductable.  Not that this would have been the case with the boat concerned.

Yes so true. I have a mate who stated his car insurance was xyz which was a very few quid less than mine and when he claimed indeed he lost 500 squids worth. My car insurance excess is zero as I always specify that on renewal and it costs me peanuts to do it. Its a bit pointless paying for insurance and not actualy being insured. I must however heck my excess on my boat policy as I didn't look this year :o
