Robbo
Some new mooring rings going in at Saltaire. Water was too murky to tell if they dredged it as that’s all it really needed (it’s piling with bar, so easy to moor with chains). Ofcourse if they didn’t give in to the newly refurbished mill flats overlooking the canal that’s been here 200 years that boats cant moor overnight then they wouldn’t really be an issue with lack of moorings. john6767
So are you saying overnight mooring by the mill is not allowed, but it is allowed where these new rings are going in?

Aye, would be pointless moorings if you couldn't. You could moor overnight here before, but due to the lack of dredging it wasn't possible to get close to the side. Bar today when I took the photo the current visitor moorings rarely get used due to the restriction (I work in the mill above the moorings) Edited August 10, 2017 by Robbo

rgreg
We wanted to moor overnight at Saltaire last week and ended up by the cricket ground below the lock after a couple of previous attempts to get in, and passing all those excellent visitor moorings with no overnight stays allowed. Hudds Lad
Have moored there twice, once naughtily under the bridge due to being caught in a torrential downpour (longest night of my life, bangs on the roof in the early hours, pit bikes razzing past between 4-6am) and once just down from the Ice Cream boat opposite Saltaire Church (very impressive view to wake up to) which was much quieter. Never understood why all those lovely mooring rings were unable to be used overnight, but flats make sense now, nimby problems
Robbo
Maybe of interest to some.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-40743367 A photographer who captured a textile mill as it closed down has returned to the site 30 years later to document its transformation. Photographer Ian Beesley took photos of the Grade II*-listed Salts Mill in Saltaire, near Bradford, as it was shutting its doors in 1986. Neil2
The mooring situation in Saltaire is ridiculous, if your boat has a normal draft you can't get near the side and the 2/3 offside berths have usually gone by lunchtime. Those bollards in front of the flats are a joke - but it's surprising how many folk buy canal side property that clearly don't like boats.
