magpie patrick
Last night we went to an open mic at the Far Canal, a pub in Wrantage. The canal is the Chard Canal, which once crossed over the road on an aqueduct. The canal closed over 150 years ago but one abutment of the aqueduct still stands, see the middle ground of the photo. This pub wasn't always called the Far Canal, I'm sure I went in there 20+ years ago and it had a different, canal related name and sign. Anyone know? It's not far from Crimson Hill Tunnel, so I'll be going back in the daytime.
NickF
Interesting .... you can still see the line of the canal clearly on google https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Wrantage,+Taunton/@51.00486,-2.9858488,982a,35y,185.34h,44.74t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x48720b11c6bcfeb7:0x1877d26536c280be!8m2!3d50.9977553!4d-2.9954682 (bottom right to top left)
Derek R.
According to Google map it seems to be marked as 'Canal Inn'. Though for some reason 'Streetview' is not playing ball.
MtB
Back in 1973 I used to play drums in a band, and we called ourselves Far Canal. We thought it insanely funny, bless

Heartland
Could it be the Canal Inn, Wrantage There was an incline that went up to Crimson Hill Tunnel, which was 1800 yards long
