dor
I've got about six litres of Intertuf 16 left over from about four years ago. It is in the original 20 litre tin. It is still "liquid" but is quite stiff. It is going to be quite difficult to apply and I wondered if thinning it a bit with white spirit might help. If it goes on too thickly, I have my doubts over whether it will cure properly in the time available (five days to put on three coats). Has anyone any experience of thinning Intertuf? It might just need warming up as it is at about 10 degrees at the moment.
Ex Brummie
I would try warming it first. If a part tin, there may have been sufficient air in there to partially cure it.
dor
Thanks for your reply ExB. The tin has been unopened since last used and was well sealed. There was no skin on the top so I am hoping it hasn't started curing.
philjw
The product data sheets on International's site show what thinners to use. There seem to be quite a few Intertuf products so you will have to check the right one for the stuff you have. http://www.international-marine.com/products/search-pds.aspx?Title=Intertuf 203 Phil
philjw
Just noticed that you have Intertuf 16. This is what the data sheet says about thinning: Not Recommended. Use International GTA004 only in exceptional circumstances (max 5% by volume). DO NOT thin more than allowed by local environmental legislation. nb Innisfree
I always used a thinned down coat as a primer to help it adhere to the old stuff. (Used white spirit) Edited April 6, 2017 by nb Innisfree
Chalky White
would not recommend thinning, warm it up and knock it up before applying 4" roller main area to apply waterline
