water tank condensation and capacity

Featured Posts

two questions if I may.could anyone tell me how to stop my twin stainless tanks from condensating .and could anyone work out how much they hold the sizes are 6 foot long 18 inch high 14 inch front to back atb gary

To prevent condensation forming on the outside of the tanks, cover The tanks with something warm such as carpet, glued to them.

The capacity of each tank is approximately 292 litres.

Edited for tryping.

I take it does not have to be kingspan

No, what you use depends on the depth of your wallet, your diy skills and the space available.

On my boat the tanks are shrouded in 3M Thinsulate, but you could use carpet, Kingspan, spray foam (messy as a retro fit) or even an old duvet.

Why do you want to stop the condensation?

It is difficult to effectively insulate the whole of the tank, and if it is only partially insulated you will just get more condensation on the bits that aren't.

As its stainless it won't rust.

And insulation, particularly anything thin like old carpet, will only slow down cooling of the tank, so won't protect it from freezing if you are away from the boat.

The carpet is not to stop the tank cooling down. It is to keep moisture-laden air coming into contact with a cold tank. When you fill the tank the tap water is often 'clay cold' and the tank sweats. I notice this on my home toilet where condensation appears on the cistern after flushing when it has filled with cold water from the tank in the loft. The loft is cold due to the insulation across the floor.
