Ex-Member
Hi my boat came with a virtually new 12v Avtex Led TV/DVD which I don't want to use as a TV (so I have removed the arial & sat dish) but I don't mind using it for DVD's or streaming. The problem is that the sound is not brilliant. Above where the TV sits is a new Sony Dab Digital Radio CD Player with 2 built in speakers which are actually quite good. So my questions are : can I a) buy a decent sound bar for the TV and does it have to be 12v or can I run the sound from the TV through the Sony radio speakers? WotEver
A. Yes and it has to be 12V unless you have 230V available in the vicinity. (Or you could buy a small inverter but then you might have hum problems.) Or you could buy any number of battery powered small speakers - Maplin and Currys have a wide range on their shelves. B. Only if the radio has an 'Aux' input. Tony

So, if I understand this correctly can either buy a 12v or 230v sound bar and connect to the TV or I can buy some sort of cable and connect the TV to the Aux input on the radio? I have a Victron invertor on the boat. Edited December 29, 2016 by Numpty
pearley
Our 12 volt TV has a USB socket on the rear. We had a pair of small USB powered speakers from Maplins that used the small Aux out jack plug.

OldGoat
FWIW, I bought a Philips sound bar from eBay (there's an outlet that specialises in Currys returns) - virtually mint and under half price. I'm quite impressed with it (we have a big 5 channel Yamaha amplifier set up at home and the bar compares well, given the reduced size and location). The clever thing is that is has various inputs Phono, USB, Bluetooth, Toslink, digital audio. Certainly not thumping bass but adequate (I love organ music) given that there's no 'proper' bass unit with ours. A more expensive version does have a separate bass box. Does that help? Jess--
if your radio has an aux input just get a lead to go from the headphone plug on the tv to the aux input on the radio and that should work fine for you
Retardedrocker
I too have a tv that I only use for the odd DVD and the sound on mine is also crap so I play it through a Bose Sound Dock, which I bought for my I Pod. It works a treat. T.
Ex-Member
Thanks again. I am useless with modern technology. I have been reading the booklet for the DAB Radio and it might as well be in another language At home we have a Panasonic Smart Viera linked to a Humax box and then to a BOSE 321 system. Before Christmas I moved the boxes whilst cleaning and some wires came out, now I can't get On Demand on the TV. I spent hours but eventually gave up. I really don't know why I bothered as we don't watch that much TV anyway........duh!
