Life Jackets

Here's a photo of me in the shower, testing my lifejacket. After a minute, I undid the velcro so the water could get to the mechanism, and it went bang.

Photo of crotch strap not available, as that might get the thread locked.

Lovely picture

I guess life jackets are a choice whether we choose to wear them or not with or without a crotch strap, I hope I did not offend anyone.

I can definitely see why many choose not to wear them at all as well.

If you are going to wear them (I don't) you may as well wear one that works.

I wouldn't worry about me, GL! I'm perfectly happy in Loaferland!

I only come here for a bit of banter and light entertainment. Occasionally, I've given someone the odd giggle, and helped another with a bit of lectrickery!

Yer definitely.

Maybe when I get more confidence I will only wear one around the locks.

Time will tell.

After having one of the volunteer lock keepers at Foxton fall in to the centre pound (8' 6" deep) off our hire boat last September and effectively be saved by his life jacket, we wear them all the time when the boat is cruising.

One volocky said that the lady who fell into the side pound and was sucked through into the lock chamber would have been killed if she had been wearing an LJ. She would have been stuck in the culvert. Mind you, thinking about it, would not the LJ have inflated before she got into the culvert? How long it is after falling in before they start to inflate?

It's a better place to be.

Just stay away from the VP for a week or so.

That's always a risk around side pounds and they often have deep sided grassy slopes.

My dad said today we don't need a life ring because we will be wearing a life jacket around the locks.

I said 'no dad it's about being able help ourselves and other people too who may of slipped into a lock on a steep verge such as on the top lock on the marple flight'

I would feel crap if I was unable to save someone.

I guess life jackets are a personal choice, I've always worn one while using my rib.
