Sterling battery "zapper"

What a LOT of desulphators, it must be getting really trendy. Interesting and depressing (but hardly surprising) that the DIY kits of parts (even without a box) cost more than the ready made units.

I read a couple of articles about all this a while with people claiming good results with restoring dead batteries. They said that a bad one can take several weeks to restore. I suspect that leaving it on a standard charger would have done the same but probably much quicker.

i don't say your wrong, i run two motor bikes, they often spend a lot of time idle. the float charger lead gets knocked off in my crowded garage. My son recently gave me his Halfords battery charger which i tried and it restored afaik 3 'dead' batteries.

@£65 - £85 per battery this charger has more than earned its keep :).

I once complained about his 50A charger, about 8 years ago, in that it wasn't following the description that his manual stated. Something along the lines of providing constant current until 14.8V was reached, then maintaining 14.8V by regulating the current.

He reckoned I wasn't discharging my batteries enough to see that happen properly, but DID send me a new (removable) software chip just in case. It made no difference, and he was probably right about my discharge (Ooh nurse) levels.

But it was very clear that he had little patience with customers.

I know that Sterling get a bad reputation - however, recently bought an inverter from them (via eBay) - these items only have a 7 day warranty - when it arrived, couldn't get it to work so emailed them for support - response was prompt, and helpful advising various tests - in the end, suggested I returned the unit - yes it was faulty and I got a replacement (which is fine). To be honest, I was more than satisfied with the service they gave me.
