Neil Smith
Hi all, Made a bit of a cock up with my steps from the cruiser deck into the galley, as I have cupboards both sides and a wine storage under floor between the cupboards I made the steps removable which is fine but I have to drag them through the centre of the galley into the saloon to get access back to the wine storage, any ideas for a solution to this without jumping back over the steps. Cheers Neil
OldGoat
Without drawings or pictures - it's 'impossible' to give a definitive answer, so to get the ball rolling, how's about - making the step hinge-able, with each step resting on the frame:
Neil Smith
The problem is the removable floor panel is full width between cupboards so the frame for the steps sit on it so even hinging the treads would not let me lift the lid. Chewbacka
Open steps so you can reach through to your wine?
Martin Megson
Can you attach a hinge to the top step so they can be swung up to allow access. You may need a catch or perhaps a hydraulic stay like on a hatchback.
pophops
Is it possible to cut another removeable panel in the centre of the floor panel, just narrow enough to avoid the frame of the steps but wide enough to allow some access to the wine storage? Ally
A picture of the steps would help. I'd go for hinging them up against the stern door into a sturdy catch, if it's how I imagine it.
FadeToScarlet
Hinge them at the top, pit a 12v hatch raiser motor, and a large button on the wall linked to it- "in case of emergency requiring wine, push button" Push button, steps raise for access. Light the wine.cabinet with purple LEDs for a good effect too.
Bod
Store the wine somewhere else. Bod
Neil Smith
Thanks for all your replies, Meggers and Ally said hinge at the top, I think that just do it, I might have to make a lighter set as mine are fairly heavy. Neil
Ally
So long as there is a decent thickness of timber where it would hinge, to fit a good hinge, it should work fine.....and a good catch or turnbuckle to hold it.
Neil Smith
There is 9mm ply on 19mm batten, but I will make lighter open tread steps and a bit narrower so they clear the cupboard knobs. Neil
