blackstone reduction box..drain plug?

Hi, Im trying to locate the drain plug for this reduction box. Any ideas?

Looking from the back, it is in the bottom right hand corner of the back face

Should be a biggish brass bolt under where the output flange is...right in the middle on the back of the box....not the underneath....or at least that's where it is on mine...which is fitted to 3G reversing box

I think the OP has a 2G box, and the drain plug on my 2G box is right where RLWP describes.

Ahh well...as I always say everyday is a schoolday! That's where the waterjacket drain is on mine!

I have a very well dressed engine!

 

All the 3G reduction boxes have a water cooling jacket around them....it's not always used on inland boat installations cos they don't really work hard enough to need it but it's plumbed in on mine.

 

As an aside I use SAE50 in my reduction box as if you use EP90 and the seal between the reduction box and the main box isn't in the best of health you can end up with some EP oil in the main box & engine which won't do the phosphor bronze bits much good.

It should say on a brass plate near the top, but - what's the engine?

JP 2 & 3 had the 3G.

HA/B/R 2 & 3 had the 2G, as did FR2&3.

It's a hb3. The brass plate says. Type 2R3-1

OK, the '2' is the size of box, the 3-1 is the reduction ratio.

Just to confuse matters my JP3M reduction box is Type 3R and has the serial no 32 B

I would expect it to be 3R (size 3 reduction), fits on the back of a 3G reverse gearbox.

Thanks Richard, it was right there as you said..just draining out the old stuff (no idea what it was) and am putting in EP 80/90

I would have liked to put up a photo for you, but I didn't do anything to the reduction box on the Blackstone I recently worked on

See my post about using a mono grade SAE50…..if its the same as the 3G its what Lister recommend.
