Boat Launch - Suffolk Punch

Ah, you think, launching a new boat, simples, drag it out of the shed and push it into the water.

Well, no, not quite.

I was lucky enough to be invited to Beacon Boats latest launch on Tuesday.

The new hull for the next build gets delivered first, then the finished boat - Suffolk Punch - gets lifted on to the lorry.

Then the new hull gets moved to the factory entrance, then it carefully gets pushed in - this one is too long for the unit so an extension has been prepared ready.

Then down to Pillings Lock for the launch.

I am sure they have done it loads of times before, but I did think the slings were a bit too close together on the completed boat!

YES I thought that too! Even watching the slide slow made me feel scared.

Excellent slide show Matty, by the way.

Thanks for your comments, there was only one scary bit when the crane driver tried to stick the boat through the truck cab.

The boat has the best paint finish I have seen for a long time, the video is fairly low res, the reflections in the side on the proper res photo's are amazing.....It truly reflects the quality of Beacon Boats standards.

Is the prop on 'Suffolk Punch' one of those Axiom (think thats what they are called) props?

Looks like a very slight pitch - anyone on here got one? Just wondered what they are like - that is, if they are much different to an 'ordinary' one.

OH!! Only just seen this here! Thanks for doing that Matty :)

The crane guys have been lifting for us for 10 years now, and always sling the boats thus, and so far...not a single problem. They are accurate and I have full confidence in them.

The paint work is indeed a fab job! The owners live on a farm in Suffolk, thus the name. The new one that came in though will be much more od a 'Beacon' boat...60' trad, all brass ports etc...proper boat, nothing silly going on her, just lots of sensible choices made...can't wait to be fitting her!....Actually, we've started already!

Oh, and yes, that was an Axiom...not what we usually fit, but fitted by request.

You'll notice the new hull is a slipper stern again.
