My heating has packed up, the unit makes a noise and has power, it just won't fire up. I have friends flying in on Sunday from Spain for a few days on the boat plus I have family members visiting for 4 days next Wednesday.

It's an MX 40 and it's the control panel thats gone.

Now to try and get a new one!

Hi

Ring 02380528777 first thing in morning and they will post you one same day, they are Mikuni main dealers and are very helpfull. A pice of wee to fit and you will be sorted for the weekend. Buy your solid fuel stove and fit that and you will be sorted for ever.

If thats the case there is a non working unit for free in the forsale section.

Mind you in 15 years of being involved with these units Ive never heard of a mikuni control unit going.

I suspect that if it had it wouldnt even attemt to fire up........

When my MX 40 doesn't fire up the signs are usually:

1. The usual whine starts

2. A little puff of smoke from the exhaust

3. Slight warming of the flow pipe.

4. Shut down.

Diagnosis: the Mikuni is not recognising ignition.

Cure: clean the photo transistor.

Method: (This is remembered and may not be accurate)

Here is a link to the parts list pdf which has an exploded diagram: Parts list

You access the left hand end (the end with the glow plug) of the combustion chamber by undoing 3 (I think) screws and sliding the cover away. if you discover lots of soot clean it away. Wipe around the end and you will discover a little shiny bit of glass. this is the photo transistor. Wipe it clean and reassemble the unit. Then test.

I see from the exploded diagram that you should be able to remove the flame sensor by releasing the retainer (no 42: bracket) by simply undoing two screws. I found that I could not do this and needed to unship the whole combustion chamber after I had removed the unit from its mounting
