Hello all,

Any one got any suggestions for insulating all the angle/ box section that is bare between insulation slabs?

Best Ive come up with so far is some 3mm thick foil backed polystyrene type stuff (it is radiator heat reflector but not the bubblewrap one) cut to size, double sided taped onto the bare steel and then the lot taped over onto the slab.

It does work well, is reasonably cheap but takes ages to do.

And please dont all shout SPRAY FOAM because-

(a)its not mine to spray foam

(b)and Im still involved with a boat that was sprayfoamed and that has more bare bits showing than a .......all analagies welcome here

The best stuff to use in this case would be the semi rigid insulation sheets like this . Cut the pieces slightly oversize and they'll stay in place by friction.

Are string vests fire retardent though or do you treat yours? :-D

Fix all the linings to the battens using either a nail gun or screws (depending how they fit, where it is and what is going to hang off them) and some sort of silicon adhesive ie sikaflex, ceresit etc

Yep-Just what I'd planned to use on the hull below the decks. But meant, for instance, what to use to cover the angle strengtheners on the hull that the slab is sitting between?

And thanks for that ChrisPy-someone had too...:-D

We've got this issue on our Rugby-built project boat, which has horizonal angles running down the length of the hull.

We're planning on using (if I can find some) insulating self-adhesive neoprene, as used by (some) conservatory installers.

Would have thought the angle is covered by a batten where it faces inside and the linings fix to that.

The insulation sheets would be flush with the batten which would be taped over with foil tape to maintain a vapour barrier between the insulation sheets.

Maybe your battens are bolted to the side of the angle? Or do they run perpendicular across them?

cheers,

Pete.

Sorry for delay on reply on this-

Battens fix to the side of the steelwork.Cant afford to lose any headroom...

Have found some self adhesive foam underlay (for laminate flooring)in Do it All-comes in a 10m x 1m roll for £45. Would be a bit quicker, easier and cheaper than having to stick double sided tape and then radiator foil on
