So we have a ship aground in the Humber, two ships collide and another aground off Skye, I wonder if there is something wrong with the satellite navigation system

More likely to be Putin!

But for the ship colliding with the anchored ship in broad daylight reasonable viz, surely the basic Mk 1 eyeball was to blame. And it was not exactly a small ship.

Was the visibility good.

It was pretty foggy here in the Midlands this morning.

Radiation fog and advection fog have different causes.

The navigator is required to keep a log. Not just GPS. Anyway the screen shot of all the vessels near the fire is working now. There should be independant systems , redundancy.

Apparently just went straight in at 15 knots, johnV an ex big ship officer thinks it was on autopilot, not sure about visibility but John said it was murky in Beverley so maybe same just a few miles down the river.

Clearly nobody was watching for things on the bridge otherwise it wouldn't have happened after all radar would have shown a oil tanker in the way. It was on a frequently done trip so it would have been plotted into autopilot, its going to be human error I think? Unfortunately it looks like one is missing off the container ship, fortunately its not sunk as its cargo is highly flammable when in contact with water
