Looking for info on  guns and munitions carried on the midland waterways during WWII. Uncle of mine worked Coventry, Oxford , GU canals and remembers carrying guns. He also mentioned  Bournville and working/carrying through the night. Any info appreciated. Thanks

Guns have been carried over time and even in the 19th Century where Birmingham made guns went by carriers boat.  There was an ordnance depot beside the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal at Walmer Lane and later there was a factory at Sparkbrook beside the Warwick & Birmingham Canal. As to WW2 has any study been made of the BSA ?

It's possible you may find something in the Defence of Britain Database, a six year project for the Council For British Archeology it's found at the Archeology Data Service  were it can be searched, the original Google Earth dataset has since been massively expanded by Steve Thompson who originally created it and can be found to down load on the Pillbox Study Group website Extended Defence of Britain Database
