Council suggests houseboats to help solve housing crisis.

South Hams District Council appear to be suggesting the use of houseboats to assist with the housing crisis. Beeb helpfully show a picture of a Narrowboat.  Probably not many in Devon but it may be of interest.

Hmm... no canals there. Unless they want to restore the one near Stover but I don't think that's affordable! There's the River Dart but I doubt that's an easy option. Mind you, plenty of people in Totnes would love to take that offer if pontoons etc were made available. The challenge would probably be keeping the prices low there. Otherwise there's only tidal water really.

 

I expect it was a fairly glib comment that reporter jumped on.

Interesting use of the word 'subsequently'.

I can see that creating problems for the rowing club if they were allowed in Totnes.

Plenty of space for houseboats in the creeks/combe/estuary above Salcombe.  Quite a good harbour at Kingsbridge too.  Some creeks dry, others dont.

Plenty of room for house boats beyond the 12 mile limit in the Channel and on the Northern coast of France.
