K&A pump out

Turn around and go back to Bedwyn. One there, you must have just cruised straight past it!

Oh hang on, I think it might be a CRT one....

Or better, call your hire company, tell them the tank's full and ask them what they'd like to do about it :)

Will call the hire company if we get full

Will that not be a bit late (if for example they say keep going and in 3 days you'll get to a pump-out)

I'd have thought that if hire companies were doing long term hires then it would be in their own interest to include in their hand over paperwork a list of 'reciprocal' yards that will do pump-outs.

How long have you been out ?

Most hire boats I've come  across, or used, have humungous tanks to last the 'maximum occupant boat capacity' for a minimum of 2 weeks.

I did mean the Devizes flight 😀 A decent hire boat should have enough holding tank capacity for your holiday, unless you have an extended holiday or some sort of accident (like a sticky flush valve filling the tank with water). If you are really stuck its possible that the Waterfront bar at Pewsey just might sell you a pump out card, and its well worth a visit anyway.

We were originally planning to go to the waterfront tonight but don't think it's open Tuesdays 😐

It's worth asking around at Pewsey...someone might sell you a pump out card then you can use the one at Pewsey wharf.

Other than that your only option is Devizes marina as the pump out at Devizes wharf is not working at the moment. There is another CRT pump out just past Devizes on the CRT moorings at the top of the Caen hill flight, but that requires going down 6 locks (and back up presumably).

Oh, just for your planning it's about 4.5 - 5hrs cruising from Pewsey to Devizes marina.

Thats sad, good beer and food. The Barge at Honeystreet has just had its festival so even less chance than usual of mooring within a mile or two.

Is it a "dump through" type bog?  If so you can just look down the hole to see how full it is?

We tend to ring ahead to yards and marinas when we get nervous about the rising tide.  Chat to your hire yard, they may well be able to advise re. the estimated capacity of your boat as well as pump outs.  Visit more pubs, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets etc and make good use of facilities 🙂.  All helps to slow the rise.

Remember, a rising tank level lifts all floaters... 😉
