I bought a second hand marinised BMC 1.5 and gearbox in good nick back in about 1984 for £300, so £1,200 now seems about right. 

 

Shame it's not still in the boat where it could (presumably) have been seen starting and running. This adds value/removes risk for a buyer. 

 

 

But yes, which gearbox it is makes a difference and is actually very important.

I’d assume a seller would be willing to get the engine going on the back of truck or whatever to show it runs well?

 

(I don’t need a new engine, but the day will come. Just curious).
