Dry dock near Brayford pool area

Firstly sorry this has been placed in this area this forum has a very strange set up, where you seem to be restricted in how to post a simple topic?

Is there anyone local to Lincoln (Brayford pool) on here that knows where there is a dry dock or crane out services that can accommodate a 62 foot boat? I need a survey ?

They regularly take narrowboats out of the water at Burton Waters.

Wont be cheap though.

Where would be the next option ?

I can only think of Newark Marina (Farndon do not like NBs,) Newark load and unload trucks (even widebeams up to 40 tonnnes) on a regular basis. I seem to remember that Newark do a "lift / stay in cradle whilst surveyed /drop back in" deal

We are 14 foot beam and it coped easily with us.

There's a very large dry dock in Newark.  CRT I believe, it's alongside the town lock.

There is, but in the 10 years I was based at Newark I never saw or heard of its use by private boats.

When C&RT put a huge (20mt+) long sign up detailing the history of the dock, I contacted them to suggest that the sign implied it was a drinking den, when they didn't "get the message" I suggested that they review the dock history with regard to the 'corking' service it specialised in.

Many years later when we left Newark the sign had not been corrected.

I asked about this when CRT had an open day to show the renovations at Town Lock. It isn't hireable to the public sadly.

Newark marina is about half-way between Lincoln and Nottingham (see post #5)

How about West Stockworth, I seam to recall boats getting blackened there?

Is it a pre-purchase survey or an insurance survey?

The yacht club deal with slipping boats there. Not sure what their max length is but can't recall ever seeing a particularly long narrowboat ashore there.

There is the dry Dock at Thorne. But again a fair distance from Lincoln.

We have seen boats being craned in at the old wharf at the industrial units at Saxilby. Not sure who owns that.

I wonder if the OP is selling, buying or for Insurance that the Survey is required, as which ever it is, it’s not going to be cheap in that area and will more than likely require a trip up or down the Trent.

From what I have seen of Burton Waters, and what Rachel has confirmed, it would seem that they can offer the service ,and are only 'minutes' away from Brayford Pool

As she says it won’t be cheap though, As I tried to ask the OP, I wonder if it’s a pre-purchase survey or Insurance, no matter which, there seams to be limited lift out/dry dock in the Lincoln area.

No where is 'cheap' these day. But if it is an old boat then the insurers may be insisting it be surveyed.

Its just one of the many costs of boating that we have to pay,

Very limited. BW have the monopoly at the minute.

There is a new marina opening at Cherry Willingham on the Witham before too long. But that is the same owners as Burton Waters so it won't be any cheaper!

Ooooh I didn't know! Rather unimpressed by how the Brayford is run so I'll keep my eye on that.

Thank you to everyone who responded and sorry for the late reply. That boat was simply too much hassle so I have found another boat nearer and newer. Will make a post soon to say a proper hello.

All the best
