lepus
can any one tell me the difference between the pump in the large pump outs like they have at the marinas by lee san and the small mobile ones they do. https://www.leesan.com/shop/leestrom-ls160wb-dual-pump-out-station.aspx https://www.leesan.com/shop/pump-out-equipment/mobile-pump-out-machines/lsm70-mobile-self-pump-out-kit.aspx our small club is looking at a cost effective way of getting a powered pump out. we have the manual one at the moment but as age catches up on people it become something to dread when returning from a cruise. i know the large ones are about £10'000 (we had a quote) but figured if a smaller mobile lasts 2-3yrs then buy a new pump it would be a lot more cost effective. Thanks Martin

Tony Brooks
It might be worth looking at the cost of a vacuum tank and vacuum air pump mounted on top. I feel the chances of the pump getting blocked with wet wipes etc. will be far less and it it will be nicer to service the vacuum pump.
BEngo
Talk to Aylesbury Canal Soc. Phone number on the website, speak with Andrew. The one at Circus Field is, I think, the smallest, cheapest and simplest of the Lee San Range. It seems to work well, even with something like 30 m of hose attached. The output is connected directly to thd sewer. It is now about 9 years old and has not been any major trouble. It will not swallow a whole paintbrush though. IIRC the unit was about £1000, plus installation costs, which were part of the basin/slipway/wet dock build costs. N

jonathanA
A few years ago I had a pump out at marina using one of the Clarke (machine mart) self priming electric pumps. I was very impressed by how well it worked. Those pumps are relatively cheap. The hose and fitting will probably cost you more than the pump. Personally I think the lessan self pumpout kits are vastly overpriced. I think Tony's point about a vacuum based system is very valid depending on how much use and abuse it will get. Some years ago.we used to use a old farm tank type slurry spreader to empty our septic tank. They have a tractor driven pump the can either suck to fill the tanker or pump to pressurise it when your spreading/emptying Edited February 5, 2022 by jonathanA
