Hi,

Does anyone know the oil capacity of the L-B 2:1  reduction box? I need to change the oil, and want to make sure I have enough before starting the job. I can’t find anything in the manual or online.

Also, is it better to avoid hypoid gear oil in these boxes? I know there has been discussion on the forum before on this topic but I’m not sure of the final verdict. It had certainly had EP oil in it in the past, there is a half empty bottle on board to prove it.

Many thanks

Tim

What engine is it attached to, please? I suspect that there are many variations of a Blackstone 2:1 box.

Don't know the exact capacity, but not much. A litre is probably enough for at least two fills.

Indeed. Most of the space inside is filled with two gears. There isn't a lot of room for oil!

I’ve had 3 of these boxes on different boats over 35 years and have never killed one yet using ep80/90. The current one leaked when I got the boat and still does. Low level is the killer I think, as it destroys the bearings.
