That's the way I've always done it. On my engine can't see any other way of getting the stuff in.
Roxylass
Back down to the boat this morning then had to walk back up as I had forgot to take the dipstick sump empty so put the drain plug back in put nine and a half pints back in maybe ten not showing on the dipstick started the engine as I know it had the correct amount of oil in it oil pressure gauge up to forty after half an hour at quarter throttle gauge showing just above twenty still not showing on the dipstick could the oil strainer be blocking the dipstick as I took it out to clean it when I fitted a new crankcase gasket i know it has the correct amount of oil just want see it show you on the dipstick
RLWP
Does the top of the dipstick fit properly over the tube? The tube should go up into the bottom of the knob Richard

bizzard
Go back a while. Did that dipstick ever reach the oil when you definitely knew there was 9.1/2 pts or thereabouts oil in the engine. If it never did either the dipstick is too short or the tube is too long, providing that the tube is fully inserted properly at the crankcase and the dipstick does slip down over the tube when checking. If your absolutely certain that both those things are correct then an alternative is to cut bits off the top of the tube in increments of about 1/4'' until the dipstick reaches the oil on the max mark. BUT DDOUBLE CHECK !!!! everthing mentioned first and that there's 9.1/2 or so pints of oil in it. Edited April 28, 2019 by bizzard

Richard Finally checked mine. It's got an 8 stamped on it, if that's any help.

We don't know whether or not you have a standard tube or its been messed about with in the past. Very simple, follow my instructions somewhere on this thread. bizzard
Post 13. The only addition to it is to flatten the end a bit, where the markings go. Beat with a hammer or file a flat. There might be a blanking plug on the port side of that engine where the industral engines dipstick fits. Edited June 13, 2019 by bizzard
Arthur Marshall
The markings on that are like the markings on mine, but the whole thing's flat. Once the oil reaches the bottom mark, it's only about another litre to get it to the top.
