  1. Yes indeed I have been all round the marina and its boundaries, and it is what it is, as you agree on the edge of a very depressed area. I'm sure the developers will "win " as you put it, on all sides of the development eventually, if sufficient funding can be found. It may go the way of other Urban Splash developments which start with a flourish but remain unfinished as the funding dries up. A
  2. I'm not fully in agreement with you about the youths, the site is open access all day and at least one part of it is open 24/7, it is in a very depressed area ( at the moment for the benefit of journeyperson ) . However having stayed a night there recently I can fully recommend the facilities and with the added bonus of FREE 14 day moorings for all, the site certainly has things going for it. A
  3. Hi, the nature of the engineering work required would help to make the correct recomendation A
  4. That sounds great any chance of a photo please A
  5. Interesting observation that Ally, Sawley Marina doesn't have floating pontoons. Rising rings on posts, if they don't jam A
  6. Hi all Taken from the BWML website:- Sawley Marina, Nottinghamshire Sawley Marina is located on a navigational cut of the River Trent near Long Eaton, Nottingham and is the largest Inland Marina in the United Kingdom, with a water space of 23 acres. Quality flood protected moorings with electricity and water at each location are provided for 600 boats. So nothing at all to worry about, it will all be fine Really? A
  7. Hi Brian Moving the boat just before and around xmas will have its problems as others have mentioned. It really depends how much you need to get the boat to Gloucester. You are getting some very romantic notions of sailing your pride and joy to its home. In the middle of summer with low rainfall etc that may be the case. The mighty River Severn should never be taken lightly. My view is, you have a new boat (to you) no matter how much servicing it gets at MK it will not give you the knowledge of reliability you will without doubt need to tackle the journey. The chances are, particularly at that time of year, either the Avon /the Severn or both will be in flood when you need to transit them. That's providing you are not affected by the winter stoppages before you get to the river/rivers. The only way you can guarantee to get your boat to Gloucester at your planned time is to bite the bullet and pay the £1000 you are considering. A
  8. Hi Richard Your Combi is faulty, it should be in line with the values in the manual and much less than 4 amps. Of course when I sent one back to Sterling they had never come across such a problem before They replaced it just out of warranty period A
  9. Sorry Higgs, I don't agree. If the studs have been fitted earlier this year then it is unlikely that any rust from a 3.2mm hole would find its way out to the perimeter of the studs. Was the paint job new? days old? I.E. soft paint for the stud to dig into ? My possible view would be thin paint covering and the stud biting through to primer layer / bare metal. I don't think it is the cover people at fault on this one. A
  10. Really? Please tell us the blacking product which will cure in under 5 hours ready for immersion. A
  11. Welcome to the forum, If you want a marina berth then Tattenhall marina is a 20 minute car journey from Chester and has all amenities. A
  12. Not really understanding the concept " single handing " are we ?
  13. Its all been done to death before, think they have been hinting above. Pam Pickett on our fav Narrowboat website did it as it occurred in, my word is that 7 years ago already hint hint A
  14. [quote name='Flocal' timestamp='1345562661' post='926360' albeit learning to navagate a flooded river would be my first priority Hi Flocal, my priority would be learning to find refuge on a river before it floods ! It never ceases to amaze me how many people continue cruising when the rivers are up the red marker. Perhaps they don't realise that their insurance is void in flood conditions. A
  15. You sir/madam, have not the first clue, nor will you get any wiser on this forum, you do not listen to answers so why ask the questions? The information and experience here is the best anywhere. I wish you well in your quest for knowledge. A
  16. Sorry don't know anyone who has one but I need to watch this thread for when Gibbo comes along A
  17. Well it is tied up, personally I wouldn't have my centre rope in a tangle as seen on the back of your boat !
  18. Hi Micky My advice would be to connect directly to the batteries through a suitable fuse arrangement. A
  19. Excellent advice smileypete until you lost it with the solid T&E, though to be fair to the OP ( before BSP hijacked the thread) I'm assuming that the boat is a new build, life being what it is then the OP should perhaps consider building to theRCD just in case his circumstances change and needs to sell under the 5 year rule. A
  20. Oh dear bottle , looks like you interrupted the electrical "master" when he was in full one to one flow. You really ought to know better
  21. By definition (Oxford dictionary) it definitely IS an engineer the OP is looking for. Its the type of engineer who actually does the engineering and gets his hands dirty A
  22. Hi Dean As far as I am aware you can basically please yourself as to what you see fit, The latest advice is not mandatory at the moment. That said, if your home ie new boat was to go up in flames and you had not adhered to the current recommendations on the fitting of solid fuel appliances in boats then your insurance company would have a good wriggle factor. Personally I would install as the latest recommend, it's more costly, but I would aim to save some money elsewhere A
  23. Hi, you just need to replace the accumulator. The pressure of the accumulator may need setting to the parameters of the pump. The pre set pressure of the accumulator may be fine for your pump. Replace it and give it a try. Hope this helps A
  24. Gareth, I'm pretty sure the unit in question doesn't have dip switches Just to save the OP looking for them, particularly if it is such a pig of an installation. A
