  1. I'm here as 'inebriated' and I daresay there's others on here and on many other forums (or is that fora?) that are also 'inebriated' and fit the bill as they type, too. Don't worry about it! I'm not at all bothered - regardez mon visage, suis-je boverred? I'm not as hissed as thinkle may peep I am. Chill!
  2. IMHO, as an 'old' boat - just a BSC. You can get your BSC before you even start refitting, provided that the basics have been observed, like the diesel tank vents, marking of fuel cut-off, engine stop BS standard fuel flex pipes etc. The responsibility is yours to refit in a manner which will then pas the 'next' BSC.
  3. see post #2 - If you're standing close enough to a 'standard' cratch you have around 300 degree 'view' anyway!
  4. Paint over existing with a close match to existing base colour and then sketch the 'new' name (or print letters on your PC and tape on as a template, then trace/sketch) with chalk and use some 'Humbrol' or similar and paint it yourself, "simples tsk" ---- It is only temporary after all
  5. How's about a 'standard' shaped cratchboard, but with built-in windows (opening windows possible) and a 'standard' vinyl cover, into which is stitched clear vinyl windows with a rolled cover over (maybe with a net under). These can be rolled up/down in summer, as required. Consider though, that sometimes one wishes to sit 'outside' but needs shade - have one side rolled up, one side down. IMHO this is the best of all the options.
  6. Build Centre is in Cheston Road, towpath side of B&F between Rocky Lane and Thimblemill Lane. I don't think its a Timber Centre tho'
  7. Not being funny but, having left water in your systems MAY have caused some damage, but no leaks -'til next time. After I had bought my boat, I found some of the copper pipe had swelled to look like a typical lead joint. Had I not changed these, and left it too late to drain down next time, then there would have been a tankful of water in my cabin bilges

  13. Not familiar with the Sterling Charger, but it sounds like you've answered your own question by checking on an another genny. It seems to indicate a faulty charger. Final check, shore power.
  14. Eh? Isn't that what we do when cruising? How long is a piece of string? (yes, we've seen Chris Pink's theory )
  15. You don't mean that window scrappage scheme on the tele do you? I may be wrong, but I get the impression that's just a DG sales ploy and not a 'real' scheme.
  16. I LIKE that idea! Just noticed it's a resurrected old thread, nonetheless very useful
  17. It IS a local council run scheme, financed by government, but only a fixed sum in the pot up to end of March each year. We used to have part C/H, but because my OH is on a disability allowance (DLA) and the house was deemed inadequately heated/insulated, we had a new condensing boiler and a new rad/pipework in each room. They only reused the main 'back to front' 22mm pipes. The not-so-old boiler was in working order! Possibly they thought it's capacity wouldn't be adequate. They also topped-up the loft insulation to 200mm and would have insulated the cavity walls, had they not already been done. The bathroom needs refitting, but I stopped them doing that, I felt that they had helped us enough. This was 2005, work authorised around June and completed by October.
  18. One should also be aware that the local councils' grants for this often run out before the financial year end.
  19. One wouldn't, for instance, repaint a whole car, having just a rusty paintchip on the bonnet.
  20. There's no need to remove a sound paint finish. Strip only the rusty areas back to bare metal, and flat surrounding paint to a 'feather edge' & brush on a quality primer in that area. Flat as much of the rest of the boat as you can, then combine a cruise outside your locality with a paint job where you may get a better quote. Just a thought!
  21. Indeed. A couple of them in the Indian Ocean might just give those Somali bas**rds a taste of their own medicine
  22. ....and one on the stern, to keep the trim level?
