  5. I moored quite regularly below Cowroast lock, a lovely rural location. BW saw fit to allow a cemented gravel track path along the stretch to support some Sustrans cycleway project. You, and I one morning, can expect a speedway experience of mountain bikes inches from your nose when trying to get off your boat, stuff pets or toddlers, they will not be able to stop in time.
  6. I was looking for it this year late November and missed it thinking the trees must have overgrown the hole, then went passed in March and thought that doesn't look do-able any more. Richards explanation tells me what happened - CRT havn't noticed someone affecting navigation.
  7. When I was cycling in London a few years ago I used to feel quite alone when waiting for traffic lights on the Seven Sisters Road and many cyclists were flying past, sometimes ringing bells to try to move me out of the way. I used the towpaths from Kensall Green and Paddington, but being a boater never lost sight of the slow life of boaters or pedestrians. Not to say I am a slow cyclist by any means.....used to do Corby to Leicester and back at Club pace , but I don't take risks with my or others safety.
  8. you weren't feeling hard enough......

  10. I have to say that is one bit I have never moored on or seen - added to potential moorings list. Thanks
  11. Off the top of my head its Light Brunswick Green(although I recollect Baldock looked a slightly darker green than the present Willow Wren colours), RAL154 Cream and , Ayers Red. Happy to be corrected.
  12. Not criticising CRT are you there.?.....
  13. It's only 2 years since I last used it!!
  14. It's rather more relevant than Boris, weedkiller and quite a few more posts in Newest Updates. I posted as someone who is new to the waterways may think that the River Soar starts at the Trent and ends at Loughborough for part of this Winter.....rather than have a trip up to Leicester. There must be some way of checking details, veryfying the data before publishing it.
  15. Alan put the Winter Stoppage list notice up earlier, I happened to notice this straight away.... Category Winter Notice Towpath Closed No Date 05-11-2018 08:00 to 14-12-2018 16:00 Affected Waterway East Midlands - Leicester Line (Grand Union Canal) Location Lock 38, Kings Lock, near Aylestone, Leicester Line (Grand Union Canal) Upstream winding hole Near Bridge 98, Glen Parva Downstream winding hole Near Pillings Lock 52, Barrow on Soar Replacement of the top and bottom lock gates So that's 15 miles and 14 locks (7 hours ) cruising which CRT recommend you miss. You can easily wind a full length boat as far up as the top end of the Kings Mile outside the Leicester City football ground and many more places along the river. There is also full length winding hole on a canalised section just south of the Hope and Anchor where the gravel barges used to load. People in offices should know the waterways....
  16. Bletchley (Nene) has just been sold to JulesFuels, whether she is running it on the Nene or Alan is buying a new boat I am not sure. Alan does deliver to the Nene by road as well though.
  17. We spent the last two Winters on the Soar, the 2 Winters before on the North Oxford/ Upper GU, the previous on the lower T&M, Trent/Soar so you can see we prefer the open spaces of the river to the muddy ditches. I would spend time on the Leicester line but you are always far away from transport links and shops so haven't done it except for short jaunts out. You will find that anywhere around or South of MK the moorings close by facilities get even more dominated by the CCC'ERS. (Trade mark) commuting continuous cruisers. Julie Fuels and Mark on Callisto give good service from Fradley to well down the GU, beyond that there are plenty of other fuel boats.
  18. Another place is where Martin Trnecka off the forum went as his boat was struggling on the Nene, Ouse and Lark. He used Foxboats yard over there who use the same system on most of their hire boats. This is what they do. As far as I am aware he hasn't had a problem since fitting.

  21. My first though when you said spat a hose off is that you have an airlock somewhere. I have moved many boats that have sat doing nothing for years - and the most common problem I have come across on boats like these - and the first thing I check if running hot - is the skin tank valve . You can see it in picture one just above the top skin tank hose connection. Loosen it off carefully - you will often hear a rush of air before liquid appears - this sometimes small bubble of air just gets bigger and stops the skin tank circulation thus leading to overheating and pressure build up as the water turns to steam. If your boat is trimmed so it sits stern down - you may need to try to level it with ballast at the front when bleeding - or get a new bleed valve installed at the forward (higher)_end of the skin tank.
  22. More vandalism to stop vandals.

  24. I am with Collidge, the premium has risen this year as the boat has entered the over 25 year old brigade.
  25. Fancy having to repaint your tiller every time you reversed somewhere, or maybe that's why reversing is so difficult.....
