  1. From my own experience back in February trying to get my K2 going after several years laid up several things come to mind 1. fresh petrol always seem to make it start better.Lots of petrol in the carb, around 150-200ml, it needs to run for as long as possible. prime chambers with 10ml of petrol each 2. hot plugs definately makes a difference 3. it sounds like it is only running on the priming charge so I would suggest putting your hand over half of the carb air intake , works for mine, then once running after 30 seconds remove hand and make sure throttle is well open with injector drains open to clear any air from injector pipes. 4. once it runs on the petrol properly close one injector drain then close one changeover valve ( if they are linked try disconnecting them and operating separately) 5. once it starts running evenly on diesel bring in other cylinder with injector drain then changeover valve. 6. Not running long enough was my biggest problem , the chambers need to feel hot to the touch before trying to get it running on diesel. 7. I fitted a drain tap into the bottom of the carb to drain any fuel left in there. 8. Leave it running qucikly for another minute or 2 before slowing down , gives a chance to get properly warm. I do have an electronic ignition set up on mine , fitted when I got it with a 2cv coil so it needs a 12v supply unlike a magneto. It took a while to get the ignition timing right , same with injection timing. Hth Dave
  2. Try here Tek Tanks. I don't have a mechanical gauge but do have a made to measure water tank from them, very helpful Dave
  3. Just a quick thankyou to the couple who tied my boat back up this morning as I arrived near Wrenbury Hall. And thanks to anyone else that may have tied it up since some toerags nicked the rear mooring hook and the centre mooring chain leaving the ropes shredded and pieces. Why they didn't take the front hook I don't know, I suppose I should be grateful!! A big thanks also to the family on their boat following me down to Hurleston who worked me through nearly all the locks, and numerous others during the day that made it all a little easier for a single handed boater. Today was a great day to be back boating. Happy boating Dave
  4. On the NGK glowplug finder the Mitsubishi L2 engine uses a Y-723U glow plug , but I also found Y-145T listed on another site as equivalent for the Mitsubishi MM432148 glow plug. The Y-145t can be had of Ebay for £7. Hth, Dave

    She lives!

Well after much waiting I am pleased to say my k2 is running again, I still have some odds and ends to do on the engine but she sounds like she used to just without the oil blowing out of the exhaust! Next weekend she starts her journey to her new home, not too far but a lot cheaper! All the best from a happy Kelvin boater, Dave
  6. Mine is 1944 and petrol start only. It took a while to get the timing sorted and learn the best method by trial and error but generally has been straight forward to start. When I get the last few bits back together I'll know if it still is ok ,as it has been waiting for valves and guides for rather a long time. I'm looking forward to waking what has been described as the "the man with the sledgehammer inside the engine!" I can't wait! Dave

    K2 Head refitting

I know enough to know that diagonally isn't always correct , Rover V8's being one that comes to mind Not really an issue with this engine seeing as though there is no official tightening sequence or figures just "very tight"

    K2 Head refitting

Any opinions on whether I should use Wellseal on the "gasket" or not? For gasket if you don't know, read a thick steel shim! Thanks all , Dave
  9. PM me your address and you can have some, if as Graham says one strand is enough, then I probably have enough quite easily for all the K engines on the canal system!
  10. Thanks Graham, will have a play with things when I get the heads back on, Dave PS if anyone want some wool and wire I have slightly more than I need so just ask!
  11. I have just received some worsted wool and copper wire to replace the pipe cleaners I had as wicks on the valve/rocker oilers. Has anyone any info on how many strands of wool and how long to make them? Thanks, Dave
  12. I have a heated rear window timed relay on mine, timing started off the ignition switch start position (hand start only on mine)runs for about 7 minutes then turns the coil and Aldon ignitor off. Just need my new valves and guides to try it again now! Dave
  13. Series 2 RS Turbo was very much FWD , and when chipped a complete handful! Darryl Cottingham and Tom Worthington have come back for more of the same at Harpers , just at masters level. I am a mere Technician looking after the Engineering vehicles , only slightly different from the mainly Ginetta racecars i used to Race engineer for Still have a Brise starter or two around somehwere that I had made up specially , shame they wont fit with the raceline sumps we used Dave
  14. S2 RST sounds like series 2 RS turbo to me, bigger clutch if i remember rightly. FWD zetec stuff had a finer pitch than RWD pinto type stuff. We used to use redrilled FWD flywheels to fit pinto clutch. Some people use pinto flywheel but needs a RWD type starter that basically sticks into the bellhousing further. If you do have finer pitch, the Escort diesel starter is slim but has plenty off power, its been a while since i did anything with them but if you need any more info I'll do my best. hth , Dave ps. I'm working with some ex accomplices of yours from JCB at Harper Adams, they spotted my boat pics on the pc !
  15. A few thoughts on your problem MP, I would have thought it more likely that one or both pumps are leaking into the crankcase , though I'm not specifically familiar with FR's , the injectors have a set pressure of 180 bar (www.oldengine.org) so if one was dribling I would expect the engine to miss or run rough. The delay in firing would most likely be the pumps trying to fill back up and getting rid of the air . Might be worth taking the pumps off after the engine has been stood overnight and see if they are wet on the bottom ( with the day tank turned on). If either are wet with diesel then you need to get them sorted and change the engine oil too. I'm sure there are some Lister gurus around on here who can give you chapter and verse , hth, Dave
