  1. Thanks for the replies, the reason I suggested retrofitting the boiler is that they might not have the budget for the full installation and would probably complete it after the winter.
  2. Hi all, My friend has just got a smallish widebeam (50 X 10) and will be needing a stove, ideally one that can you can retro fit a back boiler to. This would probably be running 2 rads and hot water. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Steve
  3. That looks like an amazing solution!

  5. It's the length that's the issue, here's a 250 scooter on the back of mine a few years ago. I've got a Vespa now, which also fits on the back or on the front. You can fit a bigger bike on, but might have to open both lock gates to avoid losing number plates and mudguards! I've seen an tug style NB with a ducati sports bike on the front deck, but you have to consider getting it on and off.
  6. I'd agree with that, noise will be the norm for a while. 'til the new flats are done, at least!
  7. Never thought of like that, but have had a 'slow to fill' lock turn out to be a not fully closed paddle a few times!

  9. Are they going all the way to Bulls Bridge, up the Hanwell flight?
  10. That looks nice, have you got a pic with the upholstery on? Steve
  11. I've been looking at sofas recently and these were my latest find. I think if you want an L shaped sofa on a narrowboat you'll have to have it made yourself. If you do find somewhere that sells one please post a link! Steve
  12. 16gb is not a lot in terms of storage these days. Most storage is now measured in TB, not GB! Although at work we measure in PB (petabytes).
  13. Ah, I was looking via google. 16gb is pitiful, not viable without a decent land line connection.
  14. The Samsung one looks good with 6.5hrs on the battery, any idea what the internal storage is? The chromebook site doesn't say.
  15. A slippery slope = owning an apple product. Having said that, I've spent a couple of grand on apple stuff in the past, it's great for kids, but even they see past the shiny shiny and want a product with more substance in the end. My daughter hates her macbook, and had me replace her iPhone with an Android phone. She still likes her iPad, but prefers my google nexus 7. There is one thing that apple does better than anyone else, and that's marketing.
  16. It might be worth considering a tablet instead of a laptop if that's all you need it for. I'd look at the Asus transformer range, link, it seems to cover your needs and is very cheap and has a crazy long battery life! There is also the iPad if you want to spend more (for less). You have enough in your budget to get a cheap laptop for the tasks the tablet can't do, but if it's just net, mail and skype a tablet will cover it. Cheers Steve
  17. I fear the interpreted vs compiled debate might evoke less emotion from the masses than the best container for keeping your sh*t in debate.
  18. Quite possibly, as long as we don't start bickering over platforms and languages!

  20. Another dev here (really so many of us on boats?) I've got a 15" Samsung series 9 and it gives me 7-8 hrs on Linux or Win7, it's really thin and light too, so good for trips to the office. I've been looking at this company for a desktops http://aleutia.com/ , not bought one yet, but from what I've read on their site, I think they understand the 'low power' thing quite well. Steve
