  1. I've got no concerns. if you want to blow yourself up, that's your problem not mine. I'm simply asking what your thoughts are on the meter. In my profession all test gear is inspected anually any 'dodgy' gear would be outlawed, that's for my benefit/safety and also that of my customers. I've purchased the clamp meter mentioned in a previous post with a guarantee that the paperwork will pass inspection and recalibration. We'd all love to buy cheap test gear, it costs us a fortune for meters and recalibration that keep up to the latest standard.
  2. So how accurate is the 0/40A dc range? Fluke don't list such a beast only 0/600A so you may well have a fluke fluke. I wouldn't be to keen on putting high currents through any test equipment without some seriously official paperwork accompanying the said meter. All our test gear comes in from the far east nowadays seems they are intent on undercutting each other that's maybe good for financial reasons but quality is right out the window. So how good is your meter have you got good quality fused test leads and have you put 415v through it yet?........................................Are you still there?
  3. I've just found a Tecpel clamp meter which just has to be the UniT 203 under a different label click here and I've bought one so I'll do a road test when I receive it and let you know how I get on. Still can't believe it'll do all it says on the tin but I needed a new multimeter so what the hell.
  4. Reading the technical spec. the two dc scales are 0/40A and 0/400A which is almost unheard of, most dc clamp meters read 0/600A or 0/400A which is not a lot of good on a low current, low voltage set up. Seems too good to be true, how can you fail at that price?
  5. Great site this nearly as good as Smart Gauge
  6. A case of not reading the small print???? I'm currently wading my way from start to finish of this exellent website , I can thoroughly recommend it. Is that enough crawling Mr. Gibson sir?
  7. Very much like that, only spun in the north in a mill near Stockport. Do you see where I'm coming from now  Have you tried Mudfords rope yerself Andy? Reason for sourcing an alternative supply to the 'regular suppliers' from the Midlands( diplomacy again, can't last with me!) is that the latest stuff falls apart quite quickly when cleaning, the fibres pull out of the yarn too easily. You end up with a scrubbing brush full of dog hairs! So certain people having been trying to find somebody to knit rope for us. Could end up like the cans thread this. Please god no........................
  8. Washing machine, hot wash, rope in cotton bag/pillowcase not essential but saves a lot of tangling, packet or two of glo white. Then dry naturally, can take a day or two. No tumble dryers please. Ropes come up like new. You don't want to do it too often as the fibres will start coming apart. A little bit of preventive maintenance now and again is best. I'd love to know how often they were cleaned and replaced in working times. Was the fancy work cut from old cotton towing lines? Certain people I know are investigating a supply of 8/10mm cotton line in 100' lengths, maybe if the certain people are reading this post they might be able to let me know how their investigations are going, if indeed they are going. I hope that's diplomatic enough You will have if you keep this up Oops where's the edit button
  9. Cheers Pete knew you wouldn't let me down. Photo taken on Summer hols. 1965 @ Kingswood. Photo taken 1965 @ Lapworth with the boat of the same name hired from the Tardebigge Boat Co. We broken down, not for the first time on this hol. if I remember correctly. I do remember breaking down in Kings Norton tunnel and being towed out! We never did make our intended destination of Stratford and I still haven't, by boat. I've got loads of slides and photos from this era, I will get round to scanning them eventually. Lapworth I thought wasn't GRP it was constructed of plywood I may be wrong.
  10. Crimp lugs-Edmos' or Senate. CEF are just too flaming dear. I've been trading with all 3 for 30 years now.
  11. Just to throw a spanner in the works, are non of these inverters double insulated? Some of the smaller wattages must come in a 'plastic' housing. Just checked some older posts on this subject, make very interesting reading to a land locked 'spark' like myself. Hope you all sleep soundly on your super conductive tin boats floating on super conductive water with 240v lurking all around!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not that I want to alarm you all in any way of course Mind you we've got water cooled extension leads at the yard, haven't they all. It's amazing how much faith people put in an RCD!!!!! I must have replaced dozens of faulty ones over the last 30 years. I'll stick with 12v for now until I get more information. I'm sure it's going to come flooding in. Reaches for S'wester.
  12. Found this while rooting in a box of photos. and this
  13. Once worked with a fitter who made his water pump gaskets from shirt cardboard, brown paper and axle grease and he was old about a 106 I think. Said he could remember Queen Vic and no not that pub in Eastenders.
  14. I'll try and be Doveish here seeing as how a forum storm seems to be brewing. What did the old boys use before ptfe and loctite were invented? String and grease? Graham R.

  17. Get a Lister and you'll learn to live with leaks, keeps the rust at bay
  18. Is this the 85% can Terence had made? Ebay seller is in Braunston. I've put 2+2 together. How many more people would be selling cans and living in Braunston.
  19. Paddling? Nobodys mentioned cavitation and blade grip yet or the fact that a boat turns better one way than the other depending on the hand of the blade and the balance of the rudder or stemming up or that even out of gear yer shaft is more than likely still turning and that you can use this to your advantage or that at times old boats seem to have a will of their own. Never mind yer fancy fluidic dynamics it's about steering by the seat of your pants, if it works for you, do it ( that's the steering by way not the pants). Well there's enough stuff there to keep this thread going until the New Year. Debate on peeps.
  20. Any of them wanting diamond plate?????? Still waiting for a reply Malcom
