  1. @Sloughwriter Dogs have long been associated with narrowboats. Often they helped with obtaining "food" for the pot, as well as being guard dogs. Often boat people were unfairly treated by some on the bank. Dogs were a useful deterrent.
  2. If you are thinking of a sea passage, the statement above in red worries me. Speaking as a holder of a Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence. I'd check the RYA site:https://www.rya.org.uk/training
  3. Ocassionaly plots become available along the Barby Straight near Rugby. They are expensive though.
  4. Beside a canal or in the middle of the country? England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland? I’m afraid you need to be more explicit.
  5. Surely the answer is: if there is a hole in the hull and water is coming in, drill another hole to let the water out. 😁
  6. To quote a constant on Blockbusters “I’ll have a ‘P’ please Bob.”
  7. I am led to believe it is now England, once owned by George Wain. I think it was originally a horse boat named Germany but was renamed when WWI broke out.
  8. Further to this topic. B & W photo Waterways archive. JSH & Clara now resting Windmill Rd Cemetary, Longford, Coventry.
  9. This photo is featured in NarrowBoat Magazine Autumn 2018, it is from the Waterways Archive / Michael Ware collection. Quite a few of Mike Humphris relatives were involved in delivering coal to Sandford Mill.
  10. Yes, one of the giveaways is the cabin strings on the starboard side.
  11. Mark, thank you again for these. If he were still with us Mike Humphris would have loved to have seen them.
  12. Brilliant, Mark, thank you for sharing these.
  13. Kenelm at Alvecote 2021. Also when owned and run by Barlow's.
  14. MAIB? Marine Accident Investigation Branch - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
  15. Hargreaves Narrowboat Trust also have recently had a new boat built. It is electric powered. Contact Us - The Hargreaves Narrowboat Trust We have thought carefully about our passengers comfort too with the design. Many passengers are elderly and infirm and access to a narrowboat is never easy. The clever design incorporates a hydraulic passenger lift inside the rear cabin, disabled access WC, extra large windows to allow viewing whilst seated, fully fitted galley, level floor from cabin to covered bow (front) outdoor viewing area and many more features.
  16. Not sure where this is, possibly the Wigan Flight? or where I found the photos. Plus a colour photo of the one in the first post.
  17. I don't know if Isuzu produce side rail bearers, but fitting a set cured resonance issues on our Lister Petter LPWS3. RLWP of this parish fitted them.
  18. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  19. Similar has happened to some on telegraph pole footsteps and slipped. Again external staff bombarded with lurid safety instructions.
